Sir, so many obsessed over money on here. Yes I pay attention as well. Worried about breaking even, making a profit, burial coins. Oh, and the most important our heirs we don't want them to get low balled or lose money. I have never seen this board in all my years here wring their hands so much.

Here is the thing, no matter what some do, there is a good chance some of our heirs are going to be laying back drinking the drinks with umbrellas in them after they get back from the pawn shop with all the treasures. :)

Health and family is most important when it comes to reality IMO. Ok, back to hand wring my friend. Heh

The "value" and "sticker" people will probably not be found on your poll TS.
I voted "coin" like I always have, and I will vote the same in the future.

The vast majority (92%, n=25) have selected the coin so far. I have a hard time believing that.

No surprise most picked coin first. This is a numismatic forum with a lot of experienced people that know the market(value) and how to grade(sticker).

I think the knee jerk reaction is to pick coin, but it's not often so simple. Posters who complain about the price spreads between say an PR69 and PR70 or that CAC stickered coins are selling for stupid high prices are clearly choosing value, no? Either you have few to no monetary restrictions or value at least plays a large role in the equation.

I voted value. For the right price I can love just about any coin.

I selected value. The coin is a subset of the value IMHO.

I am torn between coin and value.

Sometimes I see a coin and instantly know I have to have it. Am I getting any value out the the deal? Who cares? That's the collector in me.

On the value hand, I like to look at as many coins as I can, and every now and then spot a deal. Say you have X amount of common date Morgans in 64, all priced the same. One is clearly the nicest coin of the bunch, and can be had for the same price as the same. That would be a good value buy

At the end of the day, it depends on the day

I have to like the coin first. I would not want to put a coin in my collection if I did not like it. I believe most people want to feel they are getting a good deal for what they buy, but the bottom line is you should like the coin.

    Too radical.
    Never catch on.
Besides, it wouldn't end up being bad for the hobby.

I pick the coin... A large portion of people on this forum are dealers and another portion are collectors who sell a lot of coins (not formal dealers). This forum is obsessed with cost and pricing. For me, it is the coin... and then the price.... some coins cannot afford. I do not judge my collection by what it may sell for, just don't care. So many worry about the 'health of the hobby'. That is pure bovine fecal matter - they are worried about the business and ROI. The hobby is healthy, the business portion - well, I do not really know or care - unless the coin I want is cheaper ;) . Cheers, RickO

It's not a fair comparison. The coin is singular. The sticker is singular. The value is a composite that reflects the price relative to the market and the coin.

Oh ... I chose "The coin."

I'm a collector. The coin, hand's down. No question.
    Value is a nice addition.

No I didn't ride the short bus.

When I buy a coin, I buy it to keep it. To hell with what anyone says. If I like it, I buy it. Even if it isn't valuable. Even if I overpaid. It's my money, right?

Insert witicism here. [ xxx ]
