Welcome back. I'd also add in more gradeflation out there with additional splitting of hairs when it comes to a coin's holder/grade/labeled/stickered attributes. It's barely explainable to hobby newbies or those that have been away a while. Not unexpected though.

Yup, what Bochi said, plus the GradeFlation that roadrunner added, and I'll also throw in that CAC is still lively topic.
Yeah, people still obsessing over what a CAC sticker means.

It's good to see some familiar faces are still around.
I'm a bit curious about whatever the "GSC matte proof Lincoln debate" is referring to. I recall being suspicious about many of the MPLs, but have no idea what you're talking about. Can someone share a link?
Anyway, I'm back in the country after spending some time overseas, and tip-toeing back into coins. Time will tell if it lights a a fire in me again or not, but I do appreciate the welcome backs.
Take care...Mike
Collector of Large Cents, US Type, and modern pocket change.
If I recall correctly, someone purchased a raw 1909 VDB Lincoln cent from GSC on ebay for likely around $50 and then sent it to PCGS. PCGS somehow messed up in the most royal way possible and returned it in a PR65RB (or something similar) holder when it was clearly a business strike coin. Also, and this is merely my own aside, the coin looked no better than an MS63. Regardless, a TrueView was posted of the coin and the owner might have been shopping it around while a discussion started on these boards where most everyone could see immediately and obviously it was labeled incorrectly. Eventually, PCGS made the cert number invalid and admitted, again if I recall correctly, the clerical or mechanical error. However, this did not happen until some folks dug their heels in the ground and bad feelings and accusations abounded.

Well that's a bit of a downer, but not nearly as meaty as that YN Roosie thread. lol
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Good to see you still around, Tom & hope you and yours are well.

Please share with us @CascadeChris who is this savvy Numismatist that discovered a MPL Lincoln in the wild? A story worth telling again! I guess a link would suffice.
That's doubtful. His business seems to be doing very well. The terms of the consignment agreement do state that it can take 30 days, but they are usually quicker. I think you may be confusing him with Shane (Kryptonitecomics - some people abbreviate as KC).
@MikeInFL .... Welcome back... the foregoing posts sum up the high points... plus there is always the minor intrigues and scuffles.... A great thread on gold, pull it up and go through it... Did you get any coins while you were away? I always snagged a few while on foreign assignments. Cheers, RickO
@MikeInFL another thing changed -- some of us have evolved our collecting interests in other (unexpected) areas. For example, I started collecting exonumania...shocking, really, considering all I ever really collected was Mercury Dimes. I still love the things, but I now own probably less than 10. Reconnecting with people here after time has passed should be interesting... I myself disappeared for 6+ years and then came back around 2013/14 with renewed (but different) interest.
Modern gold set some new low mintage records. Several First Spouse coins had sales under 2000 for uncirculated and under 2400 for proof. Jackie Robinson $5 gold uncirculated was dethroned by last year's National Parks unc. gold coin.
All those repeated dealer critical quotes above by Pokeplayer101 appearing in this thread should probably be removed for the benefit of said dealer. Quoting members can just edit them out. I PM'd them.

That's a pretty good update!
Plus all emotion is magnified as most of the market has taken a hard slide.
Same old stuff. Lots of the same folks just hanging out and having fun.

I snagged the TrueView before the cert number was "knocked off";

Heck, if I can tell that's no MPL, I can see why the forum would be in an uproar, particularly with deals on the coin pending.
Still a pretty coin, but wow.
My last consignment ended on May 21 and I received a check in the first few days of June.
I have not had any problems with Ian; before, during and after an auction.

I tend to hear the opposite that GC is more likely to pay early as opposed to late.
See, he needs more tuition, can you imagine that?
