What's the most fun you've had with a newbie???
Got to tell you about a boss I really did not care much for. He found out I was a coin collector from a colleague and approached me with the idea of picking my brain to score some big money. It was obvious from his questioning as to what he was trying to accomplish. He had control of all the cash drawers (think big retail business) and wanted to know what to search for and keep for a nice profit down the road....
Well, I was completely taken aback that he was being so friendly....that's a first. Then thought for a second about his goal and said that 1964 was the last year of the 90% silver coinage. But, most people do NOT KNOW that in 1965 the "coins" still had 40% silver in them. Yep, right up to and including 1970.
That was then end of the conversation as his demeanor instantly changed when he realized I was not with a customer....and off he trotted.
Did not think much about what I said and the fact that I forgot to mention it was only half dollars that had the silver.....
About a month later he called me to the office and showed me boxes of quarters and dimes, nickels and pennies dated between 1965 and 1970 (none yet sorted by denom or year). Asked me what I thought. Guess he didn't understand, nor take a few minutes to Google 40% coinage, as he had several hundred dollars of loose change that he thought will be worth a fortune down the road. I congratulated him and looked surprised that there was so much coming through the tills! I was dismissed and we never brought that subject up again. But another manager, about a year later, was commenting on his boss's obsession with going through the tills every night. That he had amassed thousands of dollars in rare coins. That he had put out a memo to all sub managers that only he was to look at the tills at the end of the day.
I've often wondered when he found out he was buying clad coinage from the company and that pennies, nickel, dimes and quarters had no silver......
Maybe the laugh was on me as I just instilled a wonderful way to save money??
Be well my friends and don't mess with a senior.

That's cruel ... hilarious, but cruel!
Okay ... I can understand the "confusion" over dimes and quarters ... and may even nickels ... but cents? Really? They are not even silver colored!
The worst part is when he tries to dispose of his treasure!
See http://www.doubledimes.com for a free online reference for US twenty-cent pieces
Eventually he will figure out they are only worth face value. You may want to start updating your resume.

He called the shop. We offered him 2% more than CoinStar for his change. We made a couple hundred dollars on the deal . (kidding) You're not the best teacher, but that's okay, we schooled him. LOL

I do wonder how many hours his greed took out of his life.....LOL
I can imagine him, long after closing, going through each till and having to examine every coin with the lights dimmed, after hours.....hard on the old eyes I would imagine.....I still chuckle thinking of this!
You are mean! That is a great story. I knew a few bosses that would deserve that.
I hit the LOL button but I actually did laugh out loud. Thanks
Surprise,surprise,surprise!!!
I wonder if he's found any 1975 quarters yet.
You probably instilled a love for coin collecting in him. He probably reading this!

That is funny... and it was not initially intentional. His own greed and failure to research the issue put the entire thing on his shoulders.
Cheers, RickO
