1855 Seated Dime -- Will it straight-grade?

COCollectorCOCollector Posts: 1,424 ✭✭✭✭✭

I'm hoping it's "market acceptable" AU.

Opinions?

Same coin, same light, different angle...

Weighs 2.5 gm and non-magnetic.

Looks cleaned ... but the photos aren't very good so it is really difficult to make a firm call.

From those images my vote would be No.

It might just be a dipped coin that will grade, but I don't think it's valuable enough to take a chance on it. Even if it makes PCGS AU50, the PCGS price guide is only $150 in that grade. It's a common date with typical surfaces, so it would likely sell for less than $150 in a PCGS graded holder. If it comes back Cleaned, you spent some money for naught. It's not a coin I'd be ashamed to own, but I wouldn't invest the grading fees on this one.

Decent coin, looks cleaned, 50/50 shot at a straight grade--as several have said, maybe not worth sinking more money into.

Looks dipped more than cleaned.... kinda washed out in the pictures, so likely no luster left...not a coin I would submit, but to each his own... it could slide through. Cheers, RickO

    Thanks for everyone's opinions.

In-hand luster looks weak or non-existent. That means seriously dipped?

$42 on ebay. So it's good for my budget type set -- until I stumble onto something better.
