    A bit more detail about such pieces.

    It has been many years since I have seen one of those with everything in place. My recollection is that a dime is ground down along with the wheat side of a cent (to size) and then the two are glued together. The combined piece then fits into the ground out portion of the cent. The sides of the combined piece can be switched by a skillful magician to turn it into what appears to be a complete cent or a dime, though only one side of the dime is ever visible.

    Man or women made...Post mint damage to some..Carved out on purpose to hide a dime for magic tricks..
