Closed S 1953 Wheat Cent

As seen in the photo above, it is a 1953 S Lincoln Wheat Cent I purchased at an antique store. On the label, the owner had written: 1953 D (crossed out the D) 1953 P (Crossed out the P) and finally wrote 1953 S. I purchased the coin wondering if it was an error or just a sign of a coin that had been touched by time. The "S" in the photo appeared to be a "b" at first, but when looked through a loupe, it showed an extremely closed S, similar to that of an 8. The coin's grade is in G-8-F12, but I purchased the coin for $0.50, so it wasn't much of a setback. Any input? What is it?

Not bad for 50 cents. Nothing special though. Plenty of mangled mint marks out there for various reasons.
Just judging from the picture, it appears more of PMD to the MM than anything else. That being said, good magnification pictures could change that opinion. Cheers, RickO
