the stuff she had from when my great grandfather died.

She also said I could have this:

While it isn't a coin I thought some people here might enjoy seeing it. Having served in the military myself it's worth more to me then any of the coins I found. It's an amazing way for me to connect through time with a man who died when I was very young.

I had three family coins, one of which I sold HK-19, and the other two I still have: another HK-19 Nevada piece and my 1870cc presentation dollar. I wish they had saved more but it's what was cherished. I too cherish the two I have kept.
One HK-19 was purse kept and AUish and I sold that.
The other is an UNC and tissue kept.

That's a very good start, and any coins that had belonged to relatives are that much more special. When you pass on your collection to a son, or, daughter those particular coins hold a greater value than the metal content, or, rarity.

The Purple Heart is a United States military decoration awarded in the name of the President to those wounded or killed while serving, on or after April 5, 1917, with the U.S. military.

Have you heard the lore about your great grandfather's experiences in the War?

That Purple Heart is the most valuable part of that collection by far, in my opinion. There has to be a story behind that, and the fact that he got one means he saw real combat and brought home some scars to prove it.

That's awesome. That European African Middle Eastern Medal has the arrowhead device. I wonder if he was apart of the amphibious assault on D-Day? Very cool stuff! I have been getting into the history of my grandpas WWII stuff. Thanks for sharing!
