Does the PCGS Guarantee Premium of 1% apply when sending in PCGS graded coins for regrade?

drddmdrddm Posts: 5,403 ✭✭✭✭✭

Just received some grades on a 8 PCGS coin regrade using my CC voucher and noticed my credit card was charged a few hundred dollars by PCGS. I will be calling PCGS in the morning for an explanation but does this make any sense to anyone?

To be charged a few hundred dollars for a regrade makes me think they either went up thousands or they didnt count the voucher

I don't submit much these days, but is it true that ANY PCGS coin that is submitted for regrade, whether using a regular submission or collector's club voucher will be charged a 1% fee based on the value of the coin IF it upgrades?

According to the PCGS website regarding the "Guarantee Premium: This additional fee applies to Rarities, Crossovers, and Reconsiderations."

Can someone please point out where it says that ANY PCGS coin that upgrades will be subjected to this fee?

The 1% does not apply to regrade.

No. I'm surprised how many collectors don't understand this.

That is the advantage of regrade vs. reconsideration. There is no premium fee for regrades. Reconsiderations, like crossovers, incur premiums fees.

Thanks Lance. That has always been my understanding as well.

I guess there must have been some error in my order. Will find out later today when I speak to customer service.

Yes, I was right, as was Lance and Wabbit...the 1% only applies to rarities, crossovers, and reconsiderations

It turns out PCGS didn't apply my CC voucher so that it is why they mistakenly charged me the extra money. Mystery solved! Lol

The advantage of a reconsideration is that if the coin does not upgrade, it remains in the old holder. A good example of when to do a reconsideration is if you have a RD copper that you bought in an OGH.

Glad it was resolved....I think that was "someone's " guess in a reply early on ;)
