I live close to where 81 splits with 88 and 17.... not much near here... JC Coin Shop is is in Johnson City, New York... Nice guys but not much to look at... he doesn't put out much but I wouldn't either in the section of town he is located in...

A lot of places advertise coin buying but very few offer anything to advanced collectors... Seems like PA has more to offer and if you are into the outdoors I highly suggest stopping for lunch at the Cabelas in Hamburg... It is amazing and right off 81 on that trip.

I agree with the idea of stopping for lunch at Cabela's.... It is an amazing store, and a good lunch. What route are you taking once you hit NYS? And where in northern NYS are you headed? I have heard that Buffalo has a couple of coin shops....I am sure there are others.... though none in my area (Catskill Mountains)... Cheers, RickO

Erwindoc I totally agree about Skyland Coin and Jewelry. Nice family store. Conservative grader and helpful staff. Two minutes off the interstate.

Yonce's shop in the Roanoke area is also worth a visit.

Your local PD will happily advise you on NYS ownership and carry laws.

GoogleMaps has a feature that shows local municipalities along various routes and the percentage of their budgets paid for by Traffic Court.

Central New York Gold and Silver in Syracuse (almost right at the intersection of I-90 and I-81). Mark will treat you right!

I am originally from NE PA and travel up there from time to time from Virginia. There is not much along the 81 corridor. Ochman's Coin and Jewelry in Dallas PA, south of Scranton, PA, is about 10 miles or so off of 81 and they are nice folks. There are always shops listed in the Harrisburg, PA area but I have never successfully found any of note. I have taken several trips to PA on back-roads just to try to find coin shops and it's a challenge -lots of coin and bullion buyers, lots of bad addresses, and a very few, out-of-the way shops along the way. Plus, your total travel time quadruples. Good luck.

If you're not from New York or Military or Police their is no carry... New York Does not reciprocate with anybody.

If you are headed close to the Thousand Islands area, you could see Merrit Reynolds at the Square Lion in Watertown, NY. And as jp84 stated, you could visit Mark Caiello at CNY Gold & Silver on Liverpool Road in Syracuse, about 2 miles from the I-81 exit for 7th North Street.
