It's interesting that GC didn't even put an inventory sticker on it. I think they might agree with you.

I'm fairly certain that the one that CRO recently bought from GC was sent in, stickered and then marked up.

Stickers really hurt slabs when the sticker is placed on the hologram that is on the outside of the slab. I had an older no-line fatty NGC slab with the full width hologram on the reverse. The dealer that I bought it from had put a large sticker on it and the hologram came off when I peeled off the sticker.

That's very frustrating, but can be avoided by liberally applying GooGone to the sticker (may take multiple applications) and delicately working it off.

We've had 5 or 6 black slabs, some came stickered, some we sent it.

Or of course the dealers could just stop sticking stuff on the plastic.

I once removed an NGC band from a GSA slab. It was a mess. Do cacs really come off residue free?

Yea. I found that out the hard way. Some brands of stickers come off easily without any trouble or problems. Other brands won't come off easily and require major effort including the use of GooGone. WD-40 also works well---just don't spray it directly on the slab.

I can understand a dealer putting a sticker on a slab. I was more angry at NGC because the holograms on their early slabs were quite delicate. The holograms on their later slabs are far more durable.

I can't. If they need to tag the coin, slip the slab into a small plastic sleeve first. I just went through a box of fifty NGC cents that I put away two years ago. Auction stickers refuse to budge.

They ought to be mindful of the next owner and put the sticker in a different spot or REMOVE it before they ship the coin.

A bean is fine and valued, however, I think a dealer or auction house sticker could be considered not as cool.

No one has addressed my earlier question. Can a bean be removed without leaving a residue? I know that many here worship the damn things like the Ten Commandments, but others don't want them schmutzing up their valuable holders.

Any sticker can essentially be removed from the plastic holders with isopropyl alcohol and a cotton ball. I've removed the remnants of sticker residue from one of the full width NGC holograms with no problems, as well as residue from other spots on several holders.

Yes they can. You can peel the sticker and use goo gone to clean up the remaining residue. You can also use a blow dryer and heat up a cac sticker and use a sharpe razor blade and carefully remove it intact and place it on another slab if you wanted. It will sometimes leave marks on the slab though so I would not try that method on a regency holder. I would also suggest you always verify your coin with the cac database. I know some gold stickers have been peeled off less valuable coins and put on higher priced coins.

I bought an old NGC fatty holder from Heritage.
When I got it, I pealed off the Heritage sticker and the hologram came right off with it.

It also had a CAC green bean, so I sent it back to Heritage and they got it reholdered and re-CAC'd.

I wish Heritage didn't put their sticker over the hologram because I'd prefer keeping it in the NGC fatty slab.

I've had the same experience. I'm not sure why Heritage, Great Collections and others cover the TPG hologram with their stickers.

I have removed stickers with Googone, alcohol and once, hot water (that was a dealer sticker, low quality). Mostly I do not worry about them, only when they cover the information on the internal label. Cheers, RickO

What amazes me is collectors that don't remove stickers from slabs when they purchase them! The longer a sticker remains on a slab the harder it is to remove! Sometimes that residue gets so hard that googone doesn't want to phase it!

Those old teletrade, heritage, etc. stickers are a b*tch to get off after a decade or so!

This method worked well on cars also, when moving registration and inspection stickers, VIN tag, license plates, etc from one vehicle to another, not that I have any direct experience.

That's a good reminder and describes me.
I suppose I leave them on as a way of keeping track of some things but I'm going to start taking all stickers off.

Edit: Remove auction, price and other stickers. Not bean stickers

I handle thousands of slabs a year and many come in with all manner of stickers on them, some which come right off, some which are those permament type that require GooGone and elbow grease to remove.

Other than the well-known issue with the delicate holograms on NGC Fatties, I don't think I've ever come across any sticker that could not be be removed with no trace left behind.

John: I have fifty and don't plan on spending an evening on the project. None of the tags peal off quickly and tear readily. At $10 a pop I will liquidate them with the partial paper still attached.

A regency with a gold cac sticker will sell for more than one without a sticker at all.

In the Op's case the submitted could have also been shooting for that
