Bought my first Oregon Commem

I've wanted one of these for a while and finally found one cheap enough to buy. These things are tough to image! The light bounces around unusually and the relief of the Native in the center makes it a magnet for light moving across the coin. Still, I think the images came out well. I'd love to hear what you guys think of the coin.

You did a nice job of avoiding burnt-out highlights in the images. I like the framing effect from the rim toning and don't see any significant dings. I think you did well!

This design is one of the four Classic Commemoratives in my 7070.

Looks like a good buy for a "C" note.

If I had to choose only one commem, that is it.
    Nice pick-up.

Thanks Kaz. Forgot to mention it but the price I paid was $100.

Bought my first about two years ago. You are absolutely correct about the challenge of imaging them.

Nice for $100. I agree about the photography. The dished fields either create shadows or hot spots...... probably more diffuse lighting would help. I opted for accepting a few shadows when I shot this one:

Funny, that was one of MY 7070/4 also.
I wonder how many others pick that for one of the four?

Others were the Columbian, California, and Connecticut.

If you take the first two letter of each of your four 7070 commems it spells CoCa CoOr (almost a popular soft drink)...it could have been the Lafeyette but that is a Comemorative Dollar (for the real thing).

Dan Carr's is near to matte proof quality and is recommended if the buyer has enough money.

While Oregon Trail issue one of my favs don't like coin in first photo. C coin with dark toning in advanced state of tarnishing. Luster seems average to dull. I prefer pieces brilliant, well struck, with nice luster, no spots or dark toning. I would pass on this coin. It's a low end coin in my view and something I would have difficulty selling online or from my table at a show. The black near the rims just awful.
