Post a coin that you own that really bothers you...

CoinstartledCoinstartled Posts: 10,135 ✭✭✭✭✭

...for whatever reason.

Examples:
1. You were drunk when you bought it.
2. Ebay purchase that you didn't feel like returning.
3. Overpaid and the value has slipped further.
4. Gump or print or scratch that has always bugged you.

I'll dig one out in a bit.

Those get locked up in a tiny box just a bit bigger than a brake master cylinder, never to be seen again.

MS66 taste on an MS63 budget.

I don't have any to post. I don't buy the coin if it has something that bothers me, or if it's an eBay item that arrives and has something that bothers me that I didn't see in the original listing, I return it.

I've purchased a few collections and I often wonder "What is this ? " and then I come to the conclusion in my own mind that people like round and hard things.

Like what came in yesterday >

I'll add a photo, with an edit , forthcoming.

Got a box of fifty (1944-d I believe) Lincolns in 66 Red. Paid a price where I can maybe break even if I sell them individually on Ebay.

Been a couple of years and hate looking at them.

Maybe they will be favors at my wake.

    ;)

I had two that milk spotted in their holders. :rage: I kept them a while out of laziness, but finally dumped them as they annoyed me every time I saw them. They would have been perfect for this thread. The collection is all cleaned out now! :D

Can I post a statement of my return and/or sell-due-to-change-of-direction postage costs? >:)

Is that where the old mechanic saying that goes "I could not fix your brakes (because clarkbar04 put coins in the master cylinder), so I made your horn louder"? :D

This is going nowhere. We need a Henway or Jessup or Weinberg to chime in...they will have some stories.

I don't have any of these. They either get returned or sold, at a loss if necessary.

Recently picked up a 15g Panda PCGS MS70 that is getting on my nerves... only because it's a bit shy of being a half ounce of gold! I don't mind the 8g because it more than a 1/4 ozt. Why couldn't they leave well enough alone?

Bought this one about 12 to 15 years ago on eBay.

I found out later that the seller bought it on Heritage and then dumped it on eBay.

It was my first 1916-S in 64.

    Surfaces were stripped and lifeless.

Actually felt euphoric, when I sold it and broke even, with some change to spare.

Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

You are referring to the 16-S, correct? Because I see no reason to be bothered by the 45 except that it is too mesmerizing.

And while I am here, the 1859 half-eagle sure looks nice for a 62.

Good point...but most of my dreck has been buried. Most notable was a silver plug 1795 Dollar in an NCS holder XF damaged. Looked bad beyond the net grade. Took a shellacking upon resale.

During a brief period, I got a hankering for commems.
    SOLD most of them.

THIS one.... well, I paid WAY too much.

Act in haste, repent at leisure. :'(

Nope. Talking about the one I posted. I was drawn in by the pictures as well.

Altered surfaces or whizzed? If so, the picture would fool me too.

So, what's wrong with it? Looks amazing from the pics. I'll admit to being tempted by that when it was for sale.

  • When I received the coin I had my contacts in, and it looked great. I left good feedback. Later I popped them out, and was looking at the coin again. Tilted it just right, and found hairlines covering 2/3 of the right field. I think there was a long thin scratch that someone tried to wipe off. I circled it in the picture.

(3 or 5 sets? whatever the limit was per HH order) 2015 Kennedy Chronicles Dollar Sets. It bothers me so much that I haven't open it yet.

@HappyLittleTrees....That still looks like a great Walker.... BST it.... full disclosure, and I bet it will sell....
As to the OP idea..... I do not have any coins to fit that description.... I have many, many coins that I have acquired along the way as part of a group that have no special significance or value.... So they just live here.
And although I enjoy wine, I have never purchased a coin while imbibing that did not meet my expectations.

I bought this at a shop in Nevada last year... was admiring it on my way out to my truck and freaking dropped it on the concrete. Now it has a small rim ding and it bothers the hell out of me!

This walker.... This picture of the reverse makes it look 1000X worse than in hand but under a loupe their is a small scratch to the left and above the eagle... I paid about half of MS66+ price guide so that eases it a little bit but the obverse is so beautiful i just try not to flip it over much... Pics are from the seller

    Successful trades.... MichaelDixon,
