Large number of coins stolen yesterday - Springfield, MO - Link to video of theft

I've done business with the owners of this coin shop and want to put this out there, just to make people in the Ozarks region aware. Couple of lowlifes smashed a car into their storefront, and, in less than 2 minutes, stole as yet unknown thousands of dollars worth of valuable coins. Please know who you're dealing with, and maybe be a bit suspicious of any sudden "good deals" or quantities of coins that may show up in the area, or maybe on online auctions, possibly from a new seller.

Wow. And they left the ikes apparently. Makes you I wonder if they actually knew about which coins to take rather than a simple smash and grab everything they saw.

    The more you VAM..

Really sorry to hear this. I was thinking of expanding into a B&M a dozen years ago but didn't want to mess with the criminals.

Tough business. Hope the inventory is recovered and the perps serve hard time.

They either got lucky breaking open the gates or they knew exactly what they were doing. Most certainly the car was stolen.

No bank, safe, home is safe that's why experts agree the more time sucking devices installed the better chances are that thieves will be able to get away with what they did. In this case there were no Bollards and two p2 Bollards would have prevented the theft. Cost would have been under $500 for installation. Too bad

I truly respect this man for what he is going through. He has a deep rooted love of his country, and acknowledges the historical significance of his life's work in numismatics. I believe these criminals are in for a tough road ahead.

I agree with you and he also says something to the fact that his area is ridden with criminals.
He said 'this town is full of criminals'
and we just** "slap them on their hands"** and let them free.

His calmness speaks volumes for his character.

    I wish him well

There was a smash-and-grab at a local gun store a couple years ago similar MO, and after rebuilding the store front they put up several bollards. Obviously not fool-proof and who knows what other gaps there might be, but at least this owner wasn't risking a repeat.

    1. If the town is "full of criminals" then why live there?
    2. Why would you not lock up your inventory after you close?
    3. As @ScarsdaleCoin alluded to, bollards would have prevented the car from smashing through
    4. Even theives don't like ikes.

I get that. What I don't get is that "experts agree the more time sucking devices installed the better chances are that thieves will be able to get away with what they did". This is backwards, right?

oops missed that ... maybe the words "less than" were omitted from towards the end there... I didn't catch that part but kinda of got what he was saying after the Bollards part.

No doubt bollards should have been in place....any and all theft deterrent devices should be employed for such enterprises (coin shops, jewelry stores etc.)...Not sure what the reference to the second car was about... unless it was a possible second get away car if the first was too damaged to drive - or the back door to be used if police arrived out front.... That would be unusual foresight for smash and grab crooks... Cheers, RickO
