When will the US Mint wise up and make an indentation in the OGP where the coin in the slab will fit right over the top of where the mint capsule currently is?

I personally don't keep the OGP but there are those who would like this.

Didn't buy this one. Too expensive. For a 70 you are looking at $800 over spot. I do believe the silver versions will probably do well especially the reverse proof.

It dropped back down to $1640 today and shows "Limited" but I would not read too much into the limited part.

About what I thought on this release.....too expensive and too limited in the taste department....smacks too much of being PC and forcing something. A very minor group seems to like it, but sales seem to show the majority do not like it.

May be worth more in a few years due to low sales.

I'll be in for the 2017 silver medal issues of Liberty- bought the 2016 so need to keep the series up to date.

Just checked ebay sales... some of these have sold for about 1,250 on there at true auction.... OUCH!

Ya, I took a look, and it looks like he sold 5 or so at true auction, and lost a fortune on every one. Then he canceled the sales instead of going through with them. Note to self... do not sell one of these at true auction if you wanna break even.

The mailers from the Mint promoting certain issues are nothing new. I usually get them a few weeks after the release of the issue when I'm assuming sales start to slow down.

WTH, table shows hundreds a week sold by US Mint,That ain't going to cut it.

USMint used to sell winner, flippable coins, now sells loser, can't sell as many as we project, design suck coins. Tail is missing, yet ihe reverse is the redeemable feature of this coin.

Hell, I'll jump in.

There's a few problems at the mint.

First is the Design by Committee. There have been some real crap designs in the past couple of years. The first American Liberty was just okay. I don't care for the second at all, so the premium over spot made it a no deal. The Commems (except for the BBHOF and Twain coins, because yes, I did like the Twain Commems) have been terrible. To be fair, the 2015-2016 platinum proofs were very well done.

The Mint may have thought that the CCAC and Artistic Infusion Program was a good idea, but they really neglected a basic rule of marketing. You have to give the people who actually buy the product, what they want. For all the surveys I've taken for the mint, it's really never been a question about design.

Then let's talk about pricing. I know the collector side of the mint is self sustaining, but some of the markups are insulting. A proof silver eagle is 320% of spot. The $440 premium over spot for 1ozt 24K gold is really hard to swallow.

We'll see what happens with the silver medal. If sales are wildly successful, then it was the prohibitive cost (to many) which is why the gold coin sales suck. If the sales are bad, it will join the gold AmLib and both commems this year (and last year) as a loser.

Will the Mint rethink their "artistic" strategy and try something different? Probably not.

Tangentially to the coins themselves, is publishing the product schedule. I really dislike how they're doing it now.

I can't blame the mint for this. This is congress. And the law is pretty specific on what Treasury can do on its own, which is why we only get gold coins and silver/bronze medals. They need to change the laws, but I don't want the US Mint to become, say, Perth. As much as I like Mickey and Donald and R2D2, they can stay off of US coinage, thanks.

They tried this once. The 2001 Capitol Visitor's Center. There were like a dozen product options. The non-OGP coins came in a manila envelope with the CoA. Abysmal sales. Now, that could have been because it was the Capitol Visitor's Center, but I don't think the Mint ever tried it again.

I do blame the US mint, however for putting "Limited" on items sold online like the First Spouses and leaving it there for over a year!

@Kudbegud no I'm sorry I don't like that design. I don't like coins with holes in them either.
