Those are definitely terminal tarnish.... The WLH is my favorite coin (recently got one roll searching)...however, that condition is useful mainly for a teaching tool... Not sure what storage condition promoted this - perhaps at the bottom of a spittoon for a month or so... ... I would certainly keep one like this if I were to find it at a show or somewhere.... a great specimen for a tarnish spectrum set....Cheers, RickO
Those are not coins that I'd deliberately purchase but I can still appreciate them. I'd be curious as to the source of the toning. They look like 'Black Beauties'.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍
I wish the obverse of my walker had the luster that the reverse does. If it did it would be outstanding. As it is the obverse lacks any luster and I'm sure would be deemed environmental damage but still rare to find such a coin so I hang on to it.
Here is the matching Morgan that I used to own and kick myself for selling. It also lacked luster and I was surprised it straight graded. I sold this before I realized they aren't that common
i think some of the terminal toned coins are nice actually. i think it depends on how they look. i have not seen a PL example...i bet that would be interesting to look at in hand.
Picked this one up on eBay, can't wait to see it in hand, the luster looks nice on this one. Thanks for this thread, it re sparked my interest in my "dark side of the moon" set
...surfed my way into this torched piece for $90 tonight...seller didn't use or mention TrueView but I'll take it...think I will call her "Raising Hell"

Not attractive at all in that light.

fire may be the root cause of the color.
Wayne aka AuroraBorealis might name that sentimental sediment!
If you can get your hand on the other 64 coins in the same quality and call it the "Charcoal" set, some one would pay big $.
Yours looks nicer than mine

Goodness gracious!
U.S. Type Set
Even with terminal tarnish, still one of the most beautiful designs ever.

The Krylon Walker.... That tarnish looks painted on... I like it
Successful trades.... MichaelDixon,

Nice and crusty!

Mushroom Testers

I though it was soot from a fire, but after examining it closely, I think it was just left somewhere for a LONG time.
It has a little bit of luster, but I would say AU50 to 53 tops.
Still couldn't resist it for $5

Perhaps politically incorrect, yet I like them both. They have character.

Hope this coin works well for you. There looks to be luster rolling under the toning.
90% junk silver pile.
