The new "Coolest Coin in my Collection"

LRCTomLRCTom Posts: 857 ✭✭✭

Nearly everything I buy is for resale, but every now and then something appears that I just have to have, for keeps. That was the case for this Seated Dollar love token, something I've never seen before. I'm assuming it was made to commemorate the marriage of Miss Randall to Mr. Sibley, back in 1900 or so.

Pretty neat, eh?

That's pretty much a "10" on my 1 to 10 scale. I'd sure keep it also.

Wish the date it was originally given was known.

If it was a wedding love token chances are very high that it was made and given to the couple in 1872

I would agree. OP estimated 1900 but I don't see where that comes in. I expect the event was in the date on the coin. (Also, names could be first names?)

    And a great coin, btw.....

The coin had circulated a while before it was made into a love token. This is why I guessed 1900 or so when the gift was given.

Fair enough - I did not pay close enough attention to the wear. Maybe an anniversary piece, with the date on the coin being the wedding date?

Whose to say it wasn't used as a pocket piece by one of them so that doesn't say much. However, it is also possible that it was made later as an anniversary gift and the wedding was in 1872. Everything is only speculation though.

Nice...I'd say it's worth at least the price as it would be without the "mods"
