Can someone answer this about Central States Shows?

Someone told me that the CSNS show is not a club show anymore. It is owned by a for profit private company. Can anyone confirm this?

I would think it would be a disgrace to have a private firm run the show and act like its being run by the club. I do not question FUN or ANA.

I just wish they would move the location around a bit

I'm pretty sure I read on their web site that there was a show chairman as well as coordination with various clubs for lectures etc. Don't think that would be if it was a private company but nothing surprises me.

I don't know the answer to your question, but to me, who runs a show is not anywhere near as important as how the show is run.

Surprisingly, we had a busy Central States last week. I had very low expectations, but from Thursday at about 11 until Saturday at 2, it was busy. The convention didn't look like it had a lot of people, but the people who attended were serious about coins...many make it their one show a year to attend. There's a lot of collectors within 3-4 hours drive from Chicago.

They used to, but quit maybe 6 years ago.

The show has improved since they anchored it in Schaumburg.

I am a governor for CSNS and I can guarantee you that it is a club show.

Glad many of you had a good show as did I.

If any dealers or collectors have any suggestions, concerns or questions about the show I would be happy to hear from you.

Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?

A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.

    BustDMs-thank you!

Suggestion, move the show to Rosemont-easier in and out.

It has been longer than that. The last time it traveled from city to city was 2005 or 2006 in St. Louis. I was the only one that I was able to make it to.

Not as much need to do that now that the ANA show is moving around. Baltimore and Long Beach shows stay put for multiple shows per year.

    That's why I said maybe since I wasn't sure.

No problem, I was just clarifying. One of these days I will make it all the way up there to the Chicago area for the CSNS show. I do wish they still moved it around though. :)

As do I. I liked Milwaukee, but many others didn't.

I just wish there were a large show such as that near my location..... sure do miss big coin shows. Well, at least there are several good gun shows here... with the occasional coin table. Cheers, RickO
