Congrats to ANYONE owning a 1968 Topps Nolan Ryan Rookie Close To Being Centered
The pic is copied from the current REA catalog. It's from a 1968 color process proof sheet. The right side - either Ryan or Wilson has to give there on the cut. No hope for each to have a center assisting right border. Since this is a proof sheet, would gather it was Wilson that won the majority of the battle cuts, making the Ryan elusive ? The card it out of my league so I don't have one. I only have a card of Wilson from Tom Hank's Castaway,
Anyone with centered 68 Ryans out here ?

One of my favorite cards in my collection, and the guy who sold it to me found me an absolute gem. Not sure why it graded out the way it did, but could care less what the grade is on the card - won't sell it for anything since I would not be able to replace it.

but would love to own one of those proof sheets and ive seen that 5.5 in hand and it is spectacular.

I've had this Ryan over 30 years. Just had it graded a few months ago...1 -
KC...Your 5.5 is as nice as my 8.5. What lowers the grade? Crease? Stain? Mark? Dead centered w/gorgeous corners in an 8.5. Has to be an optical illusion...right?

Notoriously tough to find centered; in fact several 9s I've seen look lopsided. Love KC's example.

a while back who always has great stuff, and he said it is nicer than any 8 he has seen. We have not figured out why it is a 5.5, but will find out in Chicago in a few months 
Funny thing is if it stays a 5 or bumps higher the card in my eyes is the same. Very difficult to improve upon, and for me why pay $4-7k for a PSA 8 which might not look as nice as a card I paid under $1000 for which looks like an 8. Every now and then you get lucky!
