@1630Boston Great advice and I have been. Takes a couple years for it to all sink in but I have grown to love coins and have bought many. It is a very enjoyable hobby and great people.

Do yourself a big favor if you want to preserve the beauty of this coin. Crush those staple barbs flat. And if you decide to remove the coin from this mount, don't do it by trying to remove the staples. Accidents do happen. Just perforate the cellophane with caution.

Careful, that's how "active" coin collecting starts. Looks like a nice BU, what mint?

Edit: Just saw the other pic by clicking the link, S mint.

@CHrisH821 is it weird if I am eagerly awaiting a roll of Half Dollars "unsearched" when we know that unsearched is really unlikely

Grader? Is that someone you know personally? If you are referring to a Third Party Grader, most if not all do not want the coin in a 2 X 2 (stapled) holder. The TPGs that I have dealt with on raw coins (which are not many) specify that the coin be placed in a 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 non-PVC flip for submission.

Nice Morgan dollar, if those are your cuppa tea.

I think they're pretty but they're everywhere, so I got jaded with them long ago. I prefer roads less traveled, personally.

Ditto @coindeuce on the staple issue. Uncrimped staples are whistling death. A sword of Damocles. Not so much a threat to this coin as they are to any others in the same box with it.

    Welcome.

This week I have 2 coins I like. The one could be a fake IDK and don't care as it looks great anyway and I put it in a box display from the Perth mint. The other is a Sterling silver Toner and just has appealing features. Of course I am going to have to work on my picture taking skills but here they are.

This week I thought I would have a fine example of a Hobo coin, but I have to say my first go at it looks like swiss cheese so I will post the treasure at the beach.

This weeks Coin of the Week is a 2017 Silver Proof Krug one of 15,000. Since this is the first Year of the Silver release, I believe this to be a great addition to my collection. Not sure if I want to send it to Grade yet.

@Ashland you better plan on opening the wallet a bit for this Proof as they only produced 15,000 I got mine at MCM. But first year of most coins end up being a good investment if you hold for a few years, I also got the Uncirculated version but that was at fraction of this pup. Will eat Noodles for a few weeks to make it up. :)

Looks like a token. I should leave it in the holder w/insert it came in as IMO more collectors would be interested in it.

This week I bought a new "loop" from Eschenbach. I like the products they make but not the weight nor the price. To my surprise they have a new pocket product that has the same great magnification and quality but is virtually weightless in your hand or in your pocket. This is perfect for me. I carry a very small handbag and space is tight. This product for me was a great buy and at half the cost. This is 5x Mag and cost about $55. Like this product!!!

Im very late to this thead but the 1879-s posted in the original post looks to me to have been cleaned or somewhat otherwise not original.

I could easily be wrong and if the OP submitted the coin I would be interested in seeing the results.

may the fonz be with you...always...
  • KkathylKkathyl Posts: 3,762 ✭✭✭✭✭

@joebb21 not sure I still have that coin but it is silver but probable not a proof as you point out. Just a regular silver dollar coin. I have stopped buying from that particular seller and they are a big dealer. Even use the Word "Morgan" in the company name. Urr

This weeks Coin is a simply yet beautifully designed 2016P Australia Wedged-Tailed Eagle MS70 G$15. I find it amazing how such a small coin can have such great eye appeal. The Proof has both frost and shine perfectly balanced. This coin was limited to 10,000 production so I was very pleased to be able to pick up 2 of these. I have attached a picture for your viewing. This coin to me is a reminder that we have some great friendly countries that have the same sense of pride and love of country as we do here in the USA.
