Just doing my usual looking around and found an unusual **$50 Federal Reserve Bank Bag Dimes Kansas City ** at Sarasota Numismatics. The tag does state "NEW" dimes, so more than likely Roosies.

I called just now, something like this is right up my alley - Too bad It sold and was shipped already.
Release date was January 30, 1946, so this bag is just another routine shipment. Unfortunate that the FRB re-baged the coins - the US Mint bag would have been much more interesting and the coins less marked from counting.
So if it was a Mint-sewn bag dated Jan. 30 all 5,000 coins would have qualified for "FIRST STRIKE!!!" slabs?
Heck of a big slab to get that bag in there!
I asked PCGS about First Strike labels going back before a certain date. Example would be if you had a box with 50 sealed 1971 proof sets and it was dated within the first 30 days of release. Would PCGS give the label. I wasn't given a direct answer, but it appeared at first it would be NO.
I understand that a mint sewn bag and proof sets are different, but PCGS has no record of release dates going back that far. With that bag being dated January 31st, it certainly wouldn't be a question.

No one is bothered by the particular clean twine that is holding the tag onto the bag ?
70 yrs and it looks as fresh if it just came off the spool. The edges are hardly frayed... lol

That tag had quite a bit of handling. The bag looks awfully fresh.
Unless the bag is crimped and sealed under the twine, it could hold almost anything -- maybe a secret stash of Beanie Babies or Pet Rocks?

Probably. I grew up in Detroit, which is in the Chicago Fed District, and the great majority of new coins there were Denver. KC is much closer to Denver.

I agree with those who pointed out the wear on the tag... does NOT seem to match with the bag and twine condition. But as I have said many times before... I am no expert in this area.
No. On new issues, Philadelphia was commonly the point of first production and their coins were widely distributed. Only a few weeks separate final approval and the release, and the other mints would have had to run trials before beginning full production.
So, if that's a bank tag and not a mint tag, with a date in early 1946, could these possible be 1945 dated Mercury dimes? Would the bank care if they were the "new" style dime or not?
