Got my first self submitted CAC results back!! (Images now posted)

Nothing spectacular, but I did manage to get a gold and 8 out of 14. A couple missed the bean that I thought would be a sure bet and another I thought had a very, very good chance at gold got the green instead. But overall I'm not disappointed.

Missed a bean? Join the club. At least you struck gold with your Mercury dime. Looks like some older holders too. Congrats on your results.

LOL. Yeah, I was not expecting to bat 1.000. The gold is on an old rattler, that I am pretty dang positive would go 67FB today.

do you feel differently about the "Not CAC" coins?

It's fun to have John Albanese confirm that you're purchasing quality coins. A gold bean is a keeper to anyone paying attention.

They will post results in about a week but the post office will drag your return shipment out at least a week (registered mail). Just be patient there.

If you do what you always did, you get what you always got.

There is one that did not CAC, that I was very surprised by. My feelings on it have not changed, but I would sure love to know what kept it from getting approved. I had thought it was a lock green.

I sent the package to them via registered. It went out on a Wednesday and arrived to them on Monday. So far it's taken two days for it to go from New Jersey to New York City. I have patients though, Registered is the safest method to ship.

How much did that set you back? None of those items look over $300 in MV many much less except the LC dunno there. Did u pay around $250 wow that's a lot for that group unless a few $1000 coins there. Do u just expense it or adjust your basis accordingly?

I know there were not a lot of "High Value" coins in there. I mostly did it to test my eye. With the membership level I have, I only pay for coins that pass and do not pay for not CAC coins. So the overall cost is not nearly as high as you think. Plus not all of those coins are for sale. I think of it as entertainment for my self. I'd rather spend money this way and on coins than to go spend it on greens fees or fishing gear.

The surfaces probably gave them pause. Maybe a spot or the tell of a light dipping? The two things about a coin that JA likes above all else are solid for the grade and pristine original surfaces.

No offense taken. I knew that Merc's in Rattler's have a better chance at gold, and this 1942-S is just flat out much better than a 65 that it was assigned.

Here's an image of the 1942-S Merc that got the gold.

Here is an image of the '82-CC Morgan. The marks on the cheek are frost breaks that match the ones in the high points of the hair and parts of the stars. The fields are very clean.

And finally here is the '43-S Walker that I thought would sticker for sure.

My BA at cac is near the Mendoza line. I don't fret much because most of my junk are raw buys and I'd rather have a no sticker 65 than 64 with a green bean.

I think ya did good, and surprised that 29-d slq didn't bean.

MS66 taste on an MS63 budget.

He does not have time to explain why every MS-66 1938-D buffalo nickel didn't get a sticker! :)

I agree, I would certainly not be calling him regarding a MS-66 1938-D Buffalo, but I would like to know about the '43-S Walker not getting a sticker and I would like his opinion on the '82-CC Morgan. The '82-CC Morgan I covered the grade with tape and have let half a dozen people look at it and guess the grade on it, in hand. Each every one of them said MS-65, a few said a shot at 66. Now I know the coin looks much baggier in the images, because of the shiny frost breaks. The coin has a very frosty surface. In hand it looks very clean. This is why I would like to get his take on it.

Ok, let's add the images to make this a little more interesting. The only coin I did not image was the 1944-D Mercury Dime, but it really did not need it.

(1.) (Pass) 1909 Lincoln Cent PCGS MS-66RB (This one is drop dead gorgeous in hand, it's very difficult to image in the plastic and bring out the full eye appeal) @illini420 can attest to this, as I bought it from him.

(2.) (Not CAC) 1910-S Lincoln Cent PCGS MS-63BN (Unattributed FS-502)

    (3.) (Pass) 1937 Buffalo Nickel PCGS MS-65

    (4.) (Pass) 1938-D Buffalo Nickel NGC MS-66

    (5.) (Pass) 1938-D Buffalo Nickel NGC MS-66

    (6.) (Exceeded) 1942-S Mercury Dime PCGS MS-65FB

(7.) (Not Pass) 1944-D Mercury Dime PCGS MS-66FB
    Not imaged

(8.) (Not Pass) 1929-D Standing Liberty Quarter PCGS MS-65 (I think the reverse is what held this one back)

(9.) (Not Pass) 1943-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar PCGS MS-64 (I would love to know why it didn't pass)

    (10.) (Pass) 1882-CC Morgan Dollar PCGS MS-63

    (11.) (Pass) 1882-S Morgan Dollar NGC MS-64

(12.) (Not Pass) 1883-O Morgan Dollar PCGS MS-64PL (Unattributed VAM-4 Top 100 VAM)

    (13.) (Pass) 1900 Morgan Dollar NGC MS-65

(14.) (Not Pass) 1904-O Morgan Dollar PCGS MS-65 (I think this one did not pass because of the toning spots)

Thanks!! I know the feeling. I spoke to Mr. Albanese and he does not remember every coin, which is I knew, but he did say, if in the future any coin that is submitted, you can request notes in case it does not pass or you have any other questions on it. So I will remember that for the next time.
