Thought I'd share a great Coinweek article today about one of the long-time nice guys of the hobby, with whom I crossed paths a few times years ago when I lived in Montana. Goes to show that coin collecting is not an end in itself and probably shouldn't be all-consuming (I sometimes resemble that remark myself haha!), but can be one meaningful element of a very fulfilling life.

I have his book.... great quote from the article and a helluva return on investment...
""I bought an 1878-S from John Love for $14 as part of a group purchase in 1973," he said. "It looked like the most perfect coin I had ever seen. Another dealer offered me $250 on the spot for it. That coin sold for $37,400."
He states he worked as a pinsetter, that was my grandfathers bowling alley.
I love what he is doing supporting a homeless shelter. That is charity where it is needed.
I knew Wayne via correspondence before I started the grading service for ANACS in 1979. I wish he would have come on board with us, but he was very outspoken against the idea of third-party grading.

I've long been a fan of Wayne Miller after reading his book on Morgans and Peace dollars. I have a "Miller Plate Coin" that he used to illustrate an 1881 Morgan in DMPL in that book. I did a display of that coin and his noteworthy work for charity a few years back.

Great article, but Just out of curiosity, why did they photoshop his shirt around his neck in the first pic?

What a great collector he is and thinking about some of the coins that have passed through his hands.
sadly 99% of today's collectors never heard of Wayne. he is a great guy.
I held that 78S $1. it is now in a PCGS MS68 holder. It should have been a 69!!!
This 81-S is one of Wayne's he put in his 1st edition and documented. Miller's coins are highly sought after and are known for their original quality.

I read his original book so much, that the pages actually fell out! Still have it (and several other copies as well). Awesome information!
