Popular short sets?
How is it determined what will comprise a short set? What are some popular short sets to work on?

An interesting tidbit as I was scoffed at by many dealers for collecting them. They claimed the market was too small for them to ever recoup my costs.
Another short set that will be very popular is the Proof Kennedy, 1964 to 1970 set.

1) S mint from 1878 - 1882. Pretty inexpensive one to do.
2) The complete CC set. A few will test the limits of your wallet but, still worth while if your a Morgan fan.
Also the Walker short set. Depending on who you talk to, the years are:
1) 1941 - 1947 or
2) 1937 - 1947 or
3) 1933 - 1947
Again it depends on who you talk to about the years. The 1937 - 1947 started because of the Whitman holders. There where too many to fit into one folder so they split it into two folders. The 1933 - 1947 started because of a 3 year gap in which they didn`t make any ( from 1930 - 1932 no Walkers where made. ) So it`s the sense of continuity that got that started.

I have completed both the Kennedy Half sets. (1964-1970) There are 8 coins each. I completed them in a reasonable time and with a reasonable budget.
I have also completed the war nickels (1942-1945) with only 11 coins.
Wow, what an old thread!
Walker short sets are very popular. 1941-1947 is the easiest and most cost effective. 1934-1940 is quite a bit more challenging. Or a combination of the two 1934-1947....'the LONG short set".
Same goes for Mercury dimes....1940-1945 and 1934-1945.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

A complete Franklin Half Dollar set is a short set.
Wow. Our old friend Russ. RIP
The Washington silver quarter short set is popular and doable! 1941-64.
Definitely an old thread.... had not noticed it until the Russ post.... Cheers, RickO
Franklins are a sort set. The date set is even shorter, 16 coins, 1948 to 1963.
Shield Lincoln cents is still a pretty short set

PEACE dollars is a pretty short set. 24 coins!
20 cent piece would be cool
Stella, there's you a short set
Mercury Dimes (1940-1945 or 1934-1945), Peace Dollars (24 coins in total) and Indian Head $2.5 (15 coins) are all popular sets that are pretty affordable.
