Seems there are a few...which one is the best bang for the yearly dues?

Thanks!

Don't quote me on that.

It's true. You'll get banged for the yearly dues.

So your vote would be none of them....got it.

It's all relative to your interests.

No. That's not my vote. Am a life member of the ANA, a member of the Omaha Coin Club. Past ICTA member. Have opted out of PNG and several others. They're all good, in my opinion . The banging was just a play on words, man.

The best is likely EAC, but you have to like early copper. I think most of the specialty clubs are good. For the national clubs, I think ANA is the best for regular collectors, although we may get some arguments on that.

As Zoins correctly points out, "It's all relative to your interests." If Draped Bust and Flowing Hair coins capture your interest, then perhaps the Liberty Seated Collectors Club might not provide the 'best bang' for you, and the John Reich Collectors Society would be a better match. Certainly the EAC is an excellent and well run collectors organization, but may not suit collectors of early Federal silver. It's all relative to your interests.

I am a big supporter of the ANS, but I live just over an hour's train ride from NYC so i can attend their events frequently.

If you even remotely like Seated material, then the Liberty Seated Coin Club is fantastic.

GSAs, OBW rolls, Seated, Walkers. Anything old and Colorado-focused, CO nationals.

Gonna get me a $50 Octagonal someday. Some. Day.

The Numismatic Association of Southern California is a great organization (and not just because I happen to be its current President!).

    nasc.net/

The nonprofit group does a great deal to support local coin clubs and also runs the annual Golden State Coin Show in Arcadia, CA. The NASC also puts out a quarterly magazine, The California Numismatist, which is a great magazine and has won several awards from the ANA. You can check out back issues in PDF format here:

    nasc.net/the-california-numismatist/index.html

Membership is normally $20/year which includes the print subscription to The California Numismatist... but for the first year we only charge $15. If you don't want the print subscription and would rather have the magazine emailed to you in PDF format when it comes out, then membership is only $10/year.

Please let me know if you wish to join and I can get you set up!

    :+1:

I'm also a member of several other associations and I recommend them all... ANA, NASC, Central States, Illinois Numismatic Association, Barber Coin Collectors Society, Fly-In Club and several others I'm sure I'm forgetting!!!

I feel that for the reasonable cost of join ANY of the numismatic societies your money will be well spent. You will learn something from any of the club publications that will either add to your enjoyment of the hobby, save you money on a purchase or allow you to spot a bargain saving you money.

The answer to which one(s) to join would be directly attached to your collecting interests.

So, go out and spend a few bucks on a number of memberships and begin to enjoy your hobby even more!

That being said, I would highly recommend the John Reich Collectors Society

Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?

A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.

I am not much of a 'joiner'....I find clubs to be a bit tiresome and political...I have been a member of ANA though.... Cheers, RickO

What are your interests? Generally though, ANA is a start. Then based on your areas of interest like i said, join from there.
