Is Betsy DeVos a coin collector?

Check out this picture from today's news. Is that a coin on her necklace or am I imagining things?

I think it might be a gold coin.
Looks like a SG DE to me. The date looks rather high, though. Maybe ghosting.
Lance.
St Gaudens?
Matching earrings too.
Fetching. She's money.
Nice catch on the earrings, I didn't notice that.
Good eye, dogwood.
Billionaire family, jewelry. Like Richie Rich.
It does not necessarily mean she is a collector.

Bad transactions with : nobody to date
I'd say yes! Good catch. Nobody wears coins If they aren't collectors to some extent. She's a billionaire so it could be as innocuous as she puts money in gold and likes the design or she could be a collector. Who knows.
Somebody ask Laura is she represents her
Has anyone else debated asking someone wearing coins if you can look at them, or just me? When I see someone wearing something like this, I always want to look at them closely, but don't want to weird the person out, so I never do.
I think it is cool when people in the public eye shine some light on the coin collecting hobby.
To be honest, it would sound like either a potential robbery or a creepy pickup line to a non-numismatist.
Probably like my daughter, loves to wear the gold but has no clue to the coin.

I think it likely a modern AGE.
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
Looks like an AGE since the date is higher than found on the classic Saints. Also the date appears to have more than four digits which means it's probably one of the earlier ones that had a Roman numeral date.

My stepmother wore a K-rand on a chain around her neck. She didn't collect coins.....only husbands.
My wife has been known to wear a AGE or a Panda - she just likes gold and jewelry and doesn't care for coins.

Pretty neat to be representing coins like that...
But it also sort of reminded me of the gold medals the cabinet in the movie Idiocracy would wear around their necks, haha!

During the 1980's I remember some men wearing this kind of jewelry.

Looks like a modern AGE..... and earrings to match.... definitely not cheap....She is wealthy, so expensive jewelry is no surprise... I will check her bio... might say ... Cheers, RickO
oh man, that movie is depressing.
maybe I'm in the minority, but I see little "fetching" about her, especially when she starts to talk.
Almost 25 responses until someone made political comments. Too bad, but still better that I expected.
I think it's cool that someone in her position would wear coin jewelry. Even if she is not a collector, she probably has at least a little interest in coins.
Political comment, who? I do not see one.
bob
LMAO, as by starting the post itself, your are inviting political comments .....
As to coin jewelry, I may have a very cool way to make "coin Jewelry" from very expensive and /or unique coins that look awesome, without using the coin itself...... more to follow , maybe...
Maybe not as much of a coin collector per se, she might just have a "gold digger" gene inherent in her DNA. Maybe ancestry.com can work that all out for us.

true story.....................
we were doing a small Club Show in PA several years ago when a couple who had been at our table a few times approached again and asked to see a few 1/10 AGE's. while we were talking and showing what we had, I casually asked the woman what year the coin was that she had around her neck in a bezel/on a chain. she glanced down at it and said "I can't tell" as she held it out for me to read. if I would have done that I'd have had a clear view of her very ample bosom, so I said "Maybe he should do that" as I gestured to her husband.
everyone laughed as we all saw the unintended predicament I had been placed in. they still stop by our table every time we do that show.
At least she does not wear blue copper coins hanging from her neck
News reports state that Ms. DeVos is charging the taxpayers $1,000,000 per month for security services provided by the U.S. Marshalls.
Apparently she is worried that someone will steal the coin.

It's pretty cool.
How many collectors here wear or have spouses that wear coins for jewelry?
I couldn't pay my wife to wear coin jewelry.
She knows coins...she builds websites for coin dealers...and loves their history and stories. But she won't wear a coin. I thought this stick pin might be an exception. Wrong again. (I've been wrong a lot lately.)
Lance.
Be nice if an alleged philanthropic person would move some money into needy schoolchildren, with extracurricular activities and affordable school lunches. Better yet, hiring more qualified full-time teachers. I really hope she proves me wrong and ends up being worthwhile.
Betsy Devos is the sister of Erik Prince. He was the leader of the former mercenary group
know as Blackwater. I heard he donated $200,000,000 to the Trump campaign.
I believe her brother could provide the finest security in the world if she needed it.
Heck, she could wear an 1804 original dollar around her neck if she wanted one.
She could also wear a pair of 1913 Liberty nickels or 1894s Barberdimes as earrings.
"News reports state". Really? You need to stop reading those things and think for yourself Willis.
my grand mom had a necklace like that it was a 1909 SG gold coin the year she was born in my grand dad bought it for her when they married in the 1930's

The original photographs of Ms. DeVos wearing the gold coin jewelry were taken by an Associated Press photographer during an appearance before an education group where she gave a short speech.

Why stop at $200 million? I "heard" it was $300 trillion!
Perhaps you accidentally added a few extra zeros and I assume you mean to a pro-Trump political action committee. Donations of a couple hundred thousand were reported in the media to pro-Trump PACs.
Why should her brother provide security for the Secretary?

I heard she wants to take all the kids lunch money...does that count as collecting?
Ahem..... my ring.
