This is a Trade Dollar

I know you guys know that, but I couldn't think of a better title for this thread. I got it as part of a consignment and it was only after reading that megathread about the one that may or may not be fake that i got interested in them. I don't believe this is a particularly sexy date, but I do like silver dollars and Trades do have a nice look to them. And that other thread was very interesting to say the least. I'm working on my grading skills, and I say this is a 20 - better than fine but not quite VF.

Anything sexy about this particular variety or is it a plain Jane?

    Close to a 35 IMHO.

It has decent details but I think it has environmental damage with the dark toning/gunk on it.

Fun Fact: the US gov't added about .5g more silver (compared to other US silver dollars) to Trade Dollars so they would compete better while mexican 8 reales were circulating in Asia.

Love those old 2x2's when they start to get yellow. Great example of an untouched Trade Dollar... hard to come by!!!

Don't clean it. Sent to our hosts just the way it is. Black Betty!

Certainly a Trade Dollar... hard to say much more.... not sure if the black is terminal tarnish or contamination.... Acetone bath would answer that question.... Cheers, RickO
