Anyone getting the new PCGS Retro Labels???

Looks like you can now pay a little extra ($7 extra per coin) to get retro labels of the first four PCGS Generations of holders.

Wish they would have done a little more accurate rendition of those first labels...

Retro Gen 1.0

Retro Gen 2.0

Retro Gen 3.0

Retro Gen 4.0

I can't see myself getting any of these for any of my own coins, but I'm sure I'll have at least a couple of customers asking me to send in their coins to get one or more of these retro labels.

I don't see the allure...just like the 30th anniversary labels...but I have no doubt some folks like them.

I really dislike these retro labels. If I buy a coin in a retro holder I have it reholdered as soon as I can. Now, original generation 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 holders, that is a different story.

I think this should only be an option for rehordered coins. This way, you can still "keep" your green tag while getting your coin in the new holder.

It's worth having complete collections regraded or reslabbed just so the labels match. The coins will sell for more too if the presentation looks nice and it shows the coin owner cares enough with the aesthetics. These easily will pay for themselves.

First person I talked to said it was too late to add these to my 3 submissions. Second person said they could... so I should have 7 crazy generation 2 holders coming at me in a month or so!

I have a really nice high end buffalo nickel that I bought back from a customer, He had it placed in one of the 30th anniv green retro's I hate it, would like to send It back in for a standard label because I am keeping it this time around

Not a fan....also will now will have to verify if a coin is really in an OGH or a New-OGH.
But I'm guessing they did some test marketing and found enough interest to pursue this.

It will definitely throw some off at first glance. I can see some on ebay using them to deceive.

From the look of those, it's going to be tougher to tell genuine from counterfeit.

I wonder if they are going to grade the coins to match the legend of the coins in those said holders? Pick a Ratler label and your coin goes down a full point. Pick the OGH and get a DMPL designation an just about any PL coin, etc.

NWIH I would do it, but, as a shareholder, I love the "I want them" answers and the "if I get a coin in a retro holder, I get it reholdered asap" type of answers. Good profit for like no real expense/effort on PCGS's part.

Have no interest in paying extra for or special ordering them. Only way I would end up with one is if a coin that I wanted was already in one of these slabs when I purchased it.

Not everything has to be about turning a quick dime. Having a fully matching set of coins in a premium slab is priceless and not becuase the coins will bid much higher in the future (although they will, almost guranteed: look at black label ngc slabs) but instead because they're cool.

This is not something I would be interested in.... labels and slabs are basically invisible to me.... I know many here collect them...and in some cases warrant premiums... That is fine for those collectors. Give me a great coin and a reasonable price.... OK..sometimes not so reasonable if I really like the coin Cheers, RickO

Someone featured a neat little set of 1909 cents, all the various little varieties right here and what made them extra cool was they were all in the little retro pcgs plastic. He didn't catch heat for doing this (collecting like that).

I think that doily is actually a really nice looking holder. I wish they were a little more reasonable than $7 extra per coin, I mean it's just a different piece of paper in there. Especially if you are doing economy grading, $7 is a significant percentage increase in price.

I didn't mind the PCGS 30th Anniversary retro OGH labels... they seemed to be pretty well done and I even had a few of my orders done with those. I liked those because really small at the top of the label, they said "PCGS 30th Anniversary" so there was no confusion when looking at these in a showcase.

These new slabs, on the other hand, do not appear to even say "PCGS" on the front of the label. That just doesn't look right to me and isn't even accurate to the originals as in many cases as the originals said PCGS on them too. The generation 1.0 coins did not, and some 2.0 and 3.0 holders didn't either... but still looks odd to not have "PCGS" very small at the top of these new labels. Especially since the typeface and barcode is more modern looking than the originals anyways. Maybe they'll look different when they start showing up though... we'll see.

Sets are worth substancially more if the slabs (and grade?) match perfectly. The whole is greater than the sums.

Most every coin I buy ends up being a Variety. There are 99 varieties in my 185 coin set. Love the last 2 quarterly specials and will do the newest one just before June. Most of the ones I did in the 30th anniversary cost me an extra 5 bucks so I thought it was cool to do a box of twenty. I like the doily design label and will submit some while submitting raw and I always have slabs that need to get the variety anyway so just do the reholder 12 bucks and variety,,,,,,now half price..........which will pay for the Doily holders...I still have more than a few of the Original Old Holders and as Always Buy the coin not the Holder....

The option is drawing customer demand in some collectors, though I'm not sure who want the option. I like the fact that you can buy coins in the old holders that are truly old for good or bad.

I guess if I saw a coin in one of these retro holders, I would purchase it if there was no premium for the holder.

But I don't plan to take advantage of this offer.

Just looking at the philosophy of this . . . and I respect each of your opinions on whether or not to buy/reslab/support the 'retro' idea . . . . .

I just believe this is further evidence that the 'holder craze' I have been associated with for the past 5 years (particularly the Doily end of things) . . . has NOT been strictly a factor of my hype or imagination. Glory be . . . .looks like there must be some interest there besides Lakes and myself???

Bottom line . . . PCGS is a hugely viable company with a long-term vision, I'm sure. If they are going into these 'retros' . . . I have to believe it is because they feel there is a reason. Yes . . . . . . buy the coin, but do not believe that others WON'T buy the holder . . .
