How about a Proof Mercury Dime Post?

Got my first proof mercury dime in the mail today. Pretty cool little coin. I was also surprised at the low mintage. A little less than 12,000 for this date:

That is the first attrative photo of an edgeview holder on a dime-sized coin that i've seen.

For some reason the fingers don't seem to bother me as they have on some small coins in these sorts of holders.

I do like how you can see the rim and edge.

What is a difference between these and a highly professionally buffed and polished regular dime?

Other than some shiny spots, just about everything. Edge/reeding, rims, fields, design detail, etc. [RE: 'details' usually, better on nice circulation pieces.]

There was a post about 3 weeks ago illustrating a bunch of polished coins being hawked as a 1936 "Proof Set."

Colorado faked "Proofs" that are color coded and not correct for the dates and weights. Troublesome stuff unless you buy them authenticated and professionally graded (pcgs).

@mgoodm3... That '42 proof haunts my coin dreams..... would love to find one like that...likely lost in the annals of collectors in the last eight years.... :'( :) Cheers, RickO

That thread made me cry. Your tribute was very touching, and I think it was a very thoughtful gesture to give his family the CBQ you referenced that he had owned before his death.

So many proofs from 1940-1942 were treated with neglect by owners and descendants, that finding a nice one can be a challenge. The fad of authentication and "grading" has further limited collector options because of the added cost.
