Cheyenne coin show report and newp

Have tried to make this show in Wyoming for a couple years now, but schedule conflicts always kept me from visiting this smaller show about a 75 minute drive from Denver.
About 20 tables, and when I arrived after noon the morning rush had subsided. There was still a steady stream of folks that made their way through while I was there. Bullion was moving, and coins were as well. I was in an indifferent mood (no real priorities or tables to hit), just browsing for whatever struck my fancy.
Picked up a commemorative medal celebrating the 350th anniversary of the founding of Taos, New Mexico featuring an ounce of silver.
Mostly looked at coins I couldn't afford, like a pair of toned Buffalos (1918 D and 1918 S) that were jaw droppers. There was a good mix of premium material and average collector stuff, so just about anything could be found, which is surprising given the smaller show venue.
Picked up this toned Morgan (below). Looks like the crescent toning began with the upper right, from 10-3, and then coins shifted to allow the secondary toning to begin, almost half moon shaped, on the left hand side, leaving the center-right of Liberty and the right field mostly color-free.
I almost pulled the trigger on a more affordable (to me) 1917 P Buffalo nickel in 65 that was all there and with some great toning as well. But with tax day approaching, I thought I'd keep my powder dry for a couple more weeks.
After the show I had lunch and then stopped by the Wyoming State History Museum. Some fun exhibits, and could have easily spent another hour there browsing. The state archives are located in the building, and that might be a fun adventure some day.
Loved the drive--traffic wasn't too bad for the 200 mile roundtrip, and weather was decent. Thankfully it wasn't a typical windy Wyoming glue-your-hat-to-your-head kind of day.
Cheers!
Gonna get me a $50 Octagonal someday. Some. Day.

Attended this show about 7 years ago . . .from SLC. It is about 450 miles. Fun show . .nice stuff. On the way back, weather blew in . . I-80 closed behind me. Drove 225 miles on a bare sheet of ice after Highway Patrol had closed the freeway . . unbeknownst to me. Only car for 200 miles. Worst drive I ever had. 12 hours back to SLC. Survived. Last time I ever would attend that show . . .
Funny . . .I now have a ranch outside Evanston . . . . but I can get there without too much I-80 horrifics.
Good looking coins you found!

My Dad had to make a similarly harrowing drive, minus the closed freeway, back over Presidents Day weekend in 1988. That one featured a semi-truck on fire hurtling down I-80 in a blinding snowstorm. Can only imagine the video if it happened today. Glad you survived! It was a dry, no wind day (shocking!), just one day after 75mph winds, rain, and a blizzard down here in Denver.
Thanks! It was a fun, low-key day.

I was there too - dang it , Rocky Mountain! We actually have to meet and shake hands someday! How about Fort Collins/Loveland next weekend?
Crisp and pretty day up on the I-25 from northern Colorado.
There was a mini-crowd at the 9 am open, but it thinned out by noon. Ken Byrd, Chick McCormick, Jason Flowers and Freese Brothers had some nice stuff, as always.

Yes, we do! I'm not sure when I'll be at the show next weekend, but we should coordinate.
Yeah, some nice stuff there. It picked up a bit after lunch, around 1.

Thanks for the report.
I made the trip to the show on Saturday. It is only about 60 miles each way.
I arrived late, mid-afternoon, when the show was fairly quiet.
My first order of business was to deliver 500+ Jacksonville [Florida] coin club medals that I had recently minted.
That seems strange that I would drive from Colorado to Wyoming to deliver Florida coin club medals.
But the Greater Jacksonville Coin Club wanted them all encapsulated by ANACS, and the regional ANACS representative was at the show. That was a lot better option than having to ship that heavy box.
I sold a few "1917" Broken Sword Peace over-strikes that I had brought, and bought some Morgan and Peace dollars for over-striking.
My "collecting" style is not really collecting. More like bargain hunting. I generally don't really try to complete sets. If I see something that I like and I think the price is right, I will buy it. It could be a $1 item or a $1,000 item.
I picked up this neat souvenir, a 1967 Medallic Art Company Cheyenne Centennial medal set in the vintage Capitol Plastics holder. $30 cash and carry. The silver one is edge marked "999+ PURE SILVER" and "62" (just like the holder). It weighs 40+ grams. So the bronze medal was essentially $7 and the silver was "spot":

And I picked up both of these coins for $15 each:
Basically a successful afternoon at a small show.
Nice coins and information. I was there once with the family when we went West back in the 70s, I'm sure things have gotten built up since then, as I recall it was a humble quiet and sleepy town then.
Thanks for the show report, I always enjoy them

Thanks for these reports, especially the photos. I always seem to see something new with these reports. Those are nice looking Cheyenne Medals. Never saw those before.
Thanks for the report. I miss Cheyenne. Will have to spend some time there when I go down to Denver for the summer ANA.
