Hi guys, I was Cherrypicking and found this 1967 SMS Quarter. What do you guys think? Double Die? Thanks in advance-joey

I just brought the coin to my Dealer friend that is an variety expert. His conclusion is mostly "Shelf Doubling", but very ,very close? The " In God We Trust" , he said, is quite interesting though? :/

You got it! Looks like a proof 69 from here (even though it's sms). Let pcgs grade it, for sure.

    IGWT is a dead giveaway.

I'm wary though and await other opinions. I had a piece that had two different kinds of doubling that made it appear like a DDO.

I think it is. The "I" especially makes me think it is.

Insert witicism here. [ xxx ]

It is in my opinion machine doubling. The example directly above this post has unmistakable notching, where as the OP's example shows what looks almost like outlining and completely lacking in the notching. Machine doubling appears more as a smear of the device rather than a true doubling of it. It also appears flat and much lower in relief compared to the original device.

I don't think so- but this variety sometimes shows machine doubling as well as die doubling, which not only confuses the issue for some, but tends to depress the value of this variety.

Machine doubling and also seems to have some die erosion....Cheers, RickO

Thanks! The other day I found another B&M Shop that allowed me to stay and Pick 'til my heart's content. I was there for 1 hour and 1/2. Only checking Washingtons. Old and recent. That's where I thought I found the big one? 1967 SMS DD Quarter. Have to do more homework before I spend money on only common coins. ;)

    Well done :)

The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

The thing that is cool about this route is when in the past hunting for well known varieties/errors only. but now, since I been digging more into the Cherrypicker's guide, I'm finding even more interesting varieties/errors that I haven't checked. Resulting in going back to these B&M shops that I already checked through but now newer ones to check! The kicker, some of these Proprietors don't mind seeing me once again. To chat while I search through their inventory. LOL

I'm glad that you have found some 'true' B&M stores that let you "shop"
Chatting is an added bonus because you never know when you may learn something new

Don't limit yourself to just CPG varieties.
You won't "discover" anything new if you limit yourself to what is already known.
