Ok. I found this in the bottom of a box. It was marked 10 cents, whiskers with double step. Okay so I figure whiskers are on the front step is on the back. I don't see anything at all haha. I've never heard of this being used colloquially and I've lived and collected coins in many states. It's just a 1963 Jefferson in great shape right? The real pisser is I can't get shots off this surface even reflecting white at it.
Sorry for all the pics but lol what am I missing? It looks like a quite nice 1963 nickel. Did this used to be proof and is why it's hard to photograph? No clue what whiskers/steps is?

Wow.... Now there is an encyclopedic, microscopic, pictorial analysis of a Jefferson nickel...
So many pictures, I forgot the original question....Oh yes... No, it is not a proof.... and the other comments seem to be the hopeful results of microanalysis of the surface.... Nothing significant on this coin.... What are you using for these pictures? Cheers, RickO
I agree with @Ricko ...less is more once in awhile. A few specific photos with a specific reference to what each is intended to show would be more useful. That being said, what I see on the reverse pretty much looks like machine/strike doubling that adds no value. The photos of the obverse profile are too dark in the side that would seem to need the lighting to show any doubling that may be present...though the pony-tail does intrigue me.
I opened this yesterday and I'm still waiting for all the pics to load, but from the ones that did load, I see a MS64/65 nickel with a bit of machine doubling..........nothing really special

The obverse is late die state, giving all of the periphery letters the 'mushy' state. There is some doubling on the ribbon around the ponytail.
The reverse has some interesting 'whiskers' that are to the left of the middle door on Monticello. They look like small die scratches, possibly engraved. There are some neat Washington quarters that have been scratches re-engraved. There is a small die break on the top of the steps under Column 3.
These are all interesting things and is why the person has it at a 2-3 times mark-up over regular uncirculated value of 10-15 cents.
Hmm cool. And again sorry for all the pics.. they didn't even appear in order and duplicated themselves in this editor.
I'm using a 20x loupe up to a camera phone. Shiny nickels and colored silver are the only two things I can't capture successfully. My light bulb is meant for something else.
Coin is like what brass would look like if it was gray. I edited pictures out of OP.

I tried reflecting the light off a grey surface, and a less-bright white surface.
Yeah I deleted.. I'm gonna upload and just hyperlink, and at least they'll be in order.
'Die erosion' can cause the ghost image of a design. IE; the 'Poor Man's' 1955 cent, where die erosion caused doubling of the last 5 in the date.

It seems to only be his forehead and lips and hair.

How come this 3 looks like it's been worked on? It looks like an extra metal triangle kinda? I don't know how to say that. Is that just the doubling from his slightly doubled queue moving the number?
The top part of the 3 looks like it's been worked on in this photo too. It's not the same height off the surface of the coin in the bottom loop of the 3.
