IMHO.....not a very good depiction of the man.

A man of his stature deserves a better portrait on this major U.S. coin.

Your thoughts are most welcome.

I think this is the 88th circulating commem on a quarter, not counting the bicentennial, and no one gives a rats ass anymore. At this point, it just makes the proof and uncirc sets more expensive.

Please, make it stop. (On the other hand we could start speculating what congress will foist on us next. How about a quarter for the longest road in every state, territory and district? A quarter depicting every state's flower, bird, tree, food and drink? Or the largest and type of fish caught in every state? I'd vote for that.)

@Goldbully I agree that the coin's portrait seems amateurish. It's too bad the mint's designers did not just use the photograph. Plus the arms on the coin seem somehow misshapen. Ah well, my subscription means I'll buy a couple anyway.

I thought that living people could not appear on U.S. coins!

I hope the coin looks better than the art above... the hair on the head is over accentuated and not representative (as confirmed by the picture). These are not my area of interest, so will not be getting one... however, I will say that the coin design presents many opportunities for DDO's.... Cheers, RickO

One rat's ass given. I concentrate on Lincoln Cents and State/Territory/ATB quarters. If they come out with a new program to recognize all 3142 counties in the US, I'll be happily collecting quarters until 2650 unless they release more than five per year. Of course, the year that Kossuth County, Iowa comes out, they'll probably just release four*.

I agree with your assessment of Douglass' picture on the coin, but I'd argue that it's not necessarily an issue -- the quarter is to recognize the historic site, not the man. Roosevelt's face on the Roosevelt National Park quarter last year wasn't even enough to really identify him. I also think his arms and hands look strange. His left pinky finger looks like it's broken.

I'll be watching for this one! I don't think I'll see it until sometime in May though.

*Because Kossuth county is just that damn awesome.

Still not seeing the artist's objective.

    LOL!

seriously, I wish that the designer had captured some of the intensity of Douglass' gaze in the photographs, remember that people had to hold perfectly still for several minutes for a daugerreotype.
