I was really interested in opinions from coin people because I couldn't tell for sure if it is or isn't a proof. I think it is a high grade coin and very attractive. Probably at least a 65 but MS or PR?
Nice circulation strike. About a decade ago, an MS roll of these (all red) was broken up and sent in for grading. Several dealers in Tucson had examples, and I bought one MS66 RD coin.

Even the MPL's had very sharply squared rims at both inner and outer edge. The peak which appears on the top face of the rim above GOD WE TRUST on this coin would not exist on a MPL. The fields on a MPL would be perfectly flat where they meet the inner edge of the rim, unlike the mild upward radius seen on this coin.

Not a proof.
There was a new master hub in 1916 which showed more detail in the design, and this one is fully struck.

Not and MPL. The rims are rounded or beveled, not MPL like at all.

I don't see any contact marks. Grading from that picture it is at least an MS66RB or even a 67RB.
I would grade it MS66.... a nice looking cent, not a proof.... Cheers, RickO
