others with more knowledge of Copper will probably be more helpful, but it was probably dipped and re-toned somehow, the rejection a result of the uneven color.

Possibly lemon-juiced. The uneven toning probably doomed it.

You can sell them. I get one here and there some buyers just want a nice coin at a good price not a MS65+++ Gem and that works for all of us. Cool coin that they are not making any more. :)

Too pink. If you're going to curate, go for the pumpkin orange look.

Thanks everyone I got it, did not see the pink till i looked at my photos thanks for pointing it out. Its a shame it would be a higher grade coin worth some bucks.Time to put it behind and move on!

Quest. is short for "questionable." What it means is that the PCGS grades think that the red color on this cent had been created probably by a dip in weak acid to remove the upper layer of toned copper.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
