REAL OR FAKE 1893-S MORGAN?

A friend of mine acquired this 1893-S Morgan today for $25.00, from an estate sale. I believe it is fake but would appreciate comments from folks more experienced than me. Thank you.

Fake. Details in the die work are wrong.

The surfaces do look funky, like this piece was cast.

granular surfaces to be sure, and the stem of the 1 isn't centered over a dentil.

Agree with everyone else. Crude counterfeit.

I guess I am just getting on the bandwagon, but I agree with everyone else that it is totally fake.

PCGS offers an authentication service. I'd try that first.

Don't throw away any more $$$ on this one.
As others have said, it's a bad fake.

Is there such a thing as a good fake?

I doubt it is silver, weigh it.

I don't know all that much about Morgans or fakes...however, the lettering/ Font of "liberty" on the headband look wrong to me.
After reading all the other pick up details I'm satisfied the lettering gave it away to my novice eye.

A good eye is priceless. Nice replica piece, though. Keep looking man they're everywhere. Estate sale with a brand new holder though. I'd wonder myself. If it's silver that's kind of cool.

I agree.. fake... there seem to be a lot out there... I purchased one (knowing it was fake, no 1902 CC's were minted) and had it cataloged on the fake site. Cheers, RickO

    Honestly,
If a person cannont truly tell that this coin is fake, then they need to proceed with extreme caution on future transactions.
Not trying to be harsh, just simply stating fact, it may save them in the long run

I agree with the above statement 100 percent. Luckily, your friend is only out $25.00. But, in the future, learn to tell the difference between authentic and counterfeit before spending big money. I sometimes, though not always, feel bad for people like your friend.
