Suggested to send quarter for possible upgrade GTG

Owned this 1806 quarter for nearly 25 years and always felt it was in its best slab (grade wise). One of 120 coins I submitted to CAC and was pleasantly surprised that it received a green sticker.
Day after I left them off, JA called to discuss some my coins and brought up this quarter and suggested having it regraded. He felt that after getting a glass on it that it had a chance to upgrade. Surprised me on a coin I felt was already maxed out .
I'll probably resubmit to NGC and if it upgrades send it on a crossover submission. What issues come up if it receives a +(or is it * at NGC)
BTW One of the first coins he complimented me on was the "nice Chain Cent" I had. Curiously, it failed to get a sticker.

I love the quarter!
I would suggest leaving it in the original holder unless you want to sell it.

Wow! I'd just send (or cross it) to PCGS just to get a trueview of that. From what I can see, that is a beautiful coin but can't tell you an accurate grade from the pics provided.
I find it very difficult grading coins from pictures, even good pictures and I apologize to ask opinions on such crappy pictures. No looking for opinions but guesses
Someday I'll get a pro in to image the important coins in my collection
What a nice coin.
Also, is it a true Fatty, with no line on the holder? (Nevermind, I see the line!) Those holders have been hit or miss for me over the years.
Impossible to grade from those images, but it is attractive. The holder, though, appears to have a line bisecting it and these were introduced around 1997, if I recall correctly.
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
I'll take the first stab and go with XF45. There appears to be a lot of luster left on that beautiful coin. So maybe it could go AU. That's if I'm reading your pics correctly
Actually now that I've taken a second look it must be graded au
Agree. No reason to do anything until it's time to sell. Who knows what the market will look like at that time? Old fatty holders with the bean could be the rage. Very nice looking coin. Don't think it's a "*" which is probably pretty tough to get on anything but MS silver coin toners from the 2nd half of the 19th century and beyond.
I stand corrected,
IT is not a fatty.
Memory is obviously failing and only one or two of the 1806s I have are in 'Fatties"
For 1806 the order I bought them was a VF-30, AU-50, AU-55 (Gold Sticker), MS-62 and the last to pick up was this NGC-MS 64
No reason for the majority of 1806s but being the most common year, they were those I can across most often.
Just recently sold the AU-50 at Heritage FUN which I think came from Teletrade Phone bids.
Memory is so bad the wife told me we already did that today.
How does one edit original posting?
How do you put full size pics on postings
I can't offer a grade from the pic (NGC slabs are tough for me to shoot) but it sure is a sweet coin!
To edit, you click on the little flower thingy or sun thing or whatever it is immediately to the right of the post date and time info.
I have no idea about the picture question.
If you have the images on your computer, just click the drop down box all the way to the right on the top bar. Search for your image on your computer and click it and then "open". It will then upload to this site.
Man that is a nice quarter
Wow! Looks like need to go back to school on that guess
Beautiful colors!

Pictures are really bad but coin is in a
NGC MS-64 Holder and JA thinks it has a chance to make MS-65> @USMarine6 said:
The strike is so weak that the hair and eagle's neck +head on a poor picture will certainly look like a XF.
I started another thread on the 1806 weak strike and the second coin Au 55 Gold sticker shows better that the center is not due to much wear and luster creeping up the sides of the bust.
My plan of attack on your 64 would be:
Go for the PCGS crossover. If it makes it, you just picked up 12K or 13K in value. If the coin above is the 64, I would have my doubts on the cross but tough to tell as they are a bit blurry.
That coin looks familiar. Maybe the ex-Oliver Jung coin? Ex-Jim Swan?
If you are looking for the upgrade.. why not crack it and send it in raw? Cheers, RickO
Owned it before Jung and don't know when Swan
Only thing worse than my images is my book keeping. coins were something I'd buy and put away for a rainy day
When I have no doubt about a problem-free grade I crack and always feel better about the results than with a cross.
I usually need to regrade a successful cross to get a fair shake.
That quarter is killer!
Lance.
That coin will advertise for itself just fine. Many people would pay more for the color/fatty/green sticker combo than they would for the coin in a new holder at the next grade up (or at the same grade with a plus).
There is significant downside if it doesn't upgrade too. You'll lose the old holder and possibly the sticker, and for certain you'd lose postage, time, and grading fees sending it all over the country again a couple of times.
