Hi guys, Yeah, I just got through going to this one particular shop (quite a drive, 25 miles. which was worth it) where the proprietor was great! She was like your mother. So pleasant. When I asked her if she would mind me searching through many coins and sets? She replied," No, you just go right ahead!" She stated, " I know some of you guys are picky and only buy certain coins". Believe me, I was like a kid in a candy store! Very early in the search, I did pick the 1999 Proof Set, Close AM Cent! I continued on. Being able to go through all those coins and sets without anyone breathing down your neck and pressuring you to buy, buy, buy. I went through everything! From junk Silver Morgans/Peace Dollars to Foreign coins hoping to find the 1859 Canadian Large Cent " Brass" instead of Copper variety coin. Seeking through Proof Sets, SMS Sets, Proof Quarters, Kennedy's, Silver Eagles (2008's)... Well you get the idea. I was there nearly 2 hours. Along with the conversation we had, in which was enjoyable, all that time while I was glancing and going through the coins. At the end, not only I was happy but she appeared to be as well. I picked a beauty while she made a sale. She asked me to come back and you know I most certainly will! -joey
One More Thing... Now I have the two brothers back together again. Meaning, the 1999 Close AM Cent, along with the 1998 Close AM Cent. You see, the 1999 Cent I previously picked last year, I sold. So, by recapturing it back, It's a happy reunion. ;)

Sounds like a lotta fun. It always is for me to go shopping for coins :)

I love coin shops like that.

Agree. There used to be two (now, sadly only one) local shop where I was friends and business partners with both and they'd let me go through all the newps.
If I found something good, I'd split 50/50 with them.
Worked out to the benefit of all parties.
Increased profits for dealers = increased trust = more profits.
    It's a good cycle.

Now that's a great way to do business! ;)

Sounds like a great shop... and two hours well spent...... A 25 mile drive is not bad at all...unless it is through Los Angeles traffic... :D Cheers, RickO

Thanks. Chicago isn't that much different than L.A. concerning traffic, believe me. People on the Forum from Chicago, can vouch for me. We all need to find more shops such as this one, huh? I actually had a better time there, than some of the Big Shows! :)

I just wish I had a coin shop or a coin show..... coinwise, this area is bereft of resources... except for antique shops which want exorbitant prices for C- coins.... Cheers, RickO

Sorry Ricko, how unfortunate? That's one good thing about the City of Chicago. There are numerous Coin Shops only within 1 Mile -25 Miles away. I'm talking at least 10 in my area. Grant it, not all are as sweet as the shop I visited yesterday. but at least there are quite a few shops in general. ;)
One More Thing... RickO, you gotta come down to Chicago, dude! For the Coins, the atmosphere, the FOOD and recently, I can say for the weather! It's been summerlike down here. Even in the month of Feb. Do I sound like I work for the City's Commerce? LOL

Just purchased two normal Proof Cents. One for 1998 and the other, 1999. Going to replace them both in the Proof Sets and resell. Keeping the other two, of course! I might send both in to our Host? Still on the fence towards the 1998 Booger?

ll you need to do is give up your eBay boycott. There are 940000 auctions right now of US coins.

  • rickoricko Posts: 98,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

@Wabbit2313...I understand that... and have utilized ebay. It does not, however, take the place of in-person browsing at a shop or show... just not the same. Cheers, RickO
