There is a pop of 2 and PCGS has one at FR02 and does not appear NGC has slabbed one so is the other one in an ANACS holder or still raw?

Only auction record I see is for one that sold in 2002 listed as AG03 but not sure if that was raw. Maybe that collector put it in PCGS holder and it got FR02 then?

According to the Breen large cent tome there are indeed only two known. They include an AG3 discovered by Breen himself in 1968 and a F2 cherries in 1993.

I would suggest checking to see what was in the Dan Holmes collection sold by the Goldbergs to see if it contained one of these or a different coin. I do not have a copy of the catalog handy to look.

Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?

A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.

The Dan Holmes coin was the Breen coin (Lester Merkin purchased the set, Breen discovered this coin in it for him, I think). From there it went to Naftzger, Streiner, RS Brown, then Holmes.

To add, the Holmes coin sold in 2009, and at that time, only one other example was known, the slightly lower grade example mentioned.

So the Holmes coin sold in 09. Anybody have pictures of that available? Was the FR02 found by a dealer or collector?

If the Goldberg archives are there, lot 122 from 9/6/09 will provide the photograph.

Yes you did & I figured they don't need two pics
of the same thing. Besides, yours was a better
    image of it.

Nice picture... sure is a rarity.... I keep hoping for something like that to turn up in my area.... the history here goes back to the late 1600's.... many buildings from colonial times still here - and occupied. Cheers, RickO

While on subject on very worn 1795.
The lettered edge coins. How badly do they need to be worn before the lettering is no longer visible? It is incuse and I have handled a few very worn 1795 and lettering always be very clear.

How bad does it have to get before that is no longer possible? Just curious.
