New draped bust half pickups, UPDATED, JUST back from PCGS with what I feel are the correct grades

Just got the grades from PCGS, I feel that they are now graded correctly, both graded as EF40, I feel the 06/5 could have
graded EF45, but still better than the 25 it was in

Here are the grades, The 1806/5 as a VF25. I grade a VF35 or EF40- This variety often comes weakly struck with minimal rims to protect the obverse, the coin has a lot of luster and some color from likely spending time in an old kraft holder or album. I usually do not like colors on my coins, but works with this one

the 1803 Is graded as VF30, I call a VF35, although the reverse is a 40+. nice coin with the color I prefer for my coins.

both of these will eventually go to our host to see what they think, I am always Leary with color that could come back altered the first time or so.

I had hit a dry spell in finding anything for my collection so had to find something that I likes. These coins are duplicates but called out to me. My icon is a really nice O103a, 1806/5, this one is technically only an O103, so I guess its not a duplicate.
even though NGC graded I felt they were if not spot on, a little conservative.
Feel free to post your grade and I will put the pics of the holders up in a while.

I love the ease with putting pics in but wish I could figure out how to make them a more manageable size, look a lot nicer when not dinner plate sized

    What I know for sure:

    • I LIKE 'em.
    • They are better than F-15....because that's my range. ;)

    What I'm less sure of:
    I'm going with VF-30 and VF-35...though the 1803 could go 40?

I love them fishteeth. Very genuine.

Your original images are very large...more than 2000x200 pixels. If you resize them before uploading (reduce their size), we'll see them more quickly with no degradation in quality. In that what you were getting at?

Wow, you guys are really tough.
I'd think Au for the first and Xf on the second

Just realized these are halves not quarters as I thought (will have to learn to read someday)
Quarters have less details than halves I believe to the thinner planchet.
Still have to think high xf and lower xf for the second

    Guessing XF45 1806, XF40 1803

My guess based on the pics...40 on the 1806 and 45 on the 1803. Both very nice coins, but I really like the 1806.

That amount of luster on a vf 25 ?

I'm really surprised at the assigned grades.
    I'm fond of that 1806.
I think there is significant remaining details and luster, beyond what I would expect from VF-25.
Not to mention it has great eye appeal.

Just got the grades from PCGS, Both graded EF40, felt the 06/5 could have gotten a 45, but still much better than the 25 it was in. No idea what NGC was thinking when they graded these

The last PCGS XF40 1806/5 I have was very similar to your coin. I felt the coin had too much luster to be a 40. Some of the details on the coin were closer to 50. For some reason the TPGs grade this one pretty strict. Fwiw, I ended up selling my XF40 for solid 45 money. Yours should do the same. NGC VF25 was ridiculous on that coin...maybe young graders only looking at the weakest parts of the coin...and calling it all wear.

Steam should be coming out of your ears on the NGC screw up. Absolutely no excuse for that. I would be looking for getting all my money back from NGC on the botched grades as this is not an "opinion" as if it is something political that you can buy.

Well this is strange, many here talk about how NGC overgrades and they want only PCGS slabbed coins, and here is an example of NGC being conservative..... Hmmm.............

I just used Photograde online to grade these and got 35/35 for the 03 and 35-40/40 for the 6/5, so it looks like NGC was conservative and PCGS possibly a touch liberal, again based on their own images online for grading these. Maybe there was an eye appeal bump? If you paid 25 and 30 money for them, you just got a great deal! If NGCs standards for DBH's are like this, heck I am going to buy more of these......

    Best, SH
