COIN A RAMA 2017

BAJJERFANBAJJERFAN Posts: 31,227 ✭✭✭✭✭

The Ames Coin Club will be hosting its annual coin show at Gates Hall in Nevada, Iowa on Saturday, Feb. 25th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 26th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A bunch of dealers from surrounding states will man more than 50 tables. May be an interesting enticement for YNs.
Nevada is about 10 miles east of Ames on U.S. highway 30.

CYA there.

  • Back in the 1960s there was a mid-week Coin-A-Rama in Hawthorne California.

Joel Rettew is the only remaining active dealer from that group. Many years ago, his numismatic column appeared weekly in the Los Angeles Times.

    Legendary dealers deserve more recognition.

Coin A Rama is probably pretty common. Hardly unique to one organization.

I have heard that the Nevada, IA show is a good show. We will be there set up for the first time this weekend. We are very much looking forward to it.

I used to go to Coin-A-Rama in Hawthorne too -
not regularly, but occasionally - met some great
dealers there - that went on to work for A-Mark,
Numismatics, Ltd., and others by themselves.

I could use this as an excuse to visit my daughter's family. Maybe find something of interest to post, too. :)

@BAJJERFAN What day are you going? I plan on going Saturday with my 87 year old grandfather.

It is a good show, probably the best in Iowa or tied for it with the Altoona show. Where will you be set up?

I have heard that it is a good show and that is why we are trying it. I am skipping out on the one that we had been doing for this one. Not sure where I will be in the room. I usually have a black table cloth under my display cases and two or three black swing arm lamps for lighting. I am also usually one of the youngest behind a table at many shows.

Tom Reynolds has been known to pass up big shows in order to be there.

I figure that he will be set up at this show. I saw him just a couple weeks ago in St. Louis but will be nice to see him again. He is a great guy.

Sounds like a decent sized show... Do not forget the show reports... Cheers, RickO
