YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You won this gorgeous piece. I was gonna fight ya for it but I got preoccupied. That's a GORGEOUS quarter my friend!! Lucky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.
There are a few hairlines in the fields and LOTS of die polish, the spot on his collar is surely also an issue. I really thought most of the lines on the portrait and fields were die polish, but submitted it for the TrueView not necessarily for the grade. Here's the link to the max sized TrueView that shows you a very intimate view of the coin.
(Everyone really should click on that to be overwhelmed by the abusive die polish on the devices of this coin.)
Rare and colorful 1824/2 JR-1 Capped Bust Dime in PCGS AU53 from the Kirk Gorman Reference Collection of Capped Bust Dimes by die marriage.
This collection was sold by W. David Perkins Numismatics in two parts, FUN 2016 and the 2016 Convention in Anaheim. This is an exceptional example of this overdate and die marriage.
Here is a photo of the Warren Miller 1803 Large 3 Draped Bust, Heraldic Eagle silver dollar in PCGS AU58+. This coin has deep, old original toning, with pretty color.
The Miller Specimen is the plate coin in the second edition of Q. David Bowers United States Silver Dollars 1794-1804.
If you could only see this coin and rotate it under a light!
This is one of my all time favorite colorfully toned early silver coins, the Lelan Rogers 1796 16 Stars Obverse Half Dollar.
This coin was Lot 1250 in the Stack's session of Numisma '95 Numismatic Rarities for the Collector sale. I viewed this coin for 30 minutes at the auction lot viewing at Stack's in November 1995, just prior to the sale. As a side note, the coin was "not in plastic" at this time. John Whitney Walter, "Mr. 1796" was the winning bidder in this sale.
Most recently, this 1796 Half Dollar was sold in the Stack's May 2015 D. Brent Pogue Collection sale:1102. I got to view this spectacular coin again, now graded PCGS MS-66. It realized $822, 500!
braddick, That might be the most colorful Peace dollar I have seen on these boards. Looks natural to me, is it in a straight graded holder? Would love to see Phil image that one!
Peace dollar isn't mine! Wish it was. . . located the image via a Google search a bit ago and always liked those Christmas colors (the key word I used. . .).
