Hi Guy's, I may have finally (hopefully) found, the impossible to find, 1996D Wide A.M. Variety? Plus, an off metal Lincoln at the same time?
Here first is the "off metal" hopeful. I know the pics aren't the best.

Now here is the other, BIG Hopeful one. The Wide AM.
First the normal one;
Now here is the Variety?
What do you guys think? Thanks in advance-joey
Here is another angle of the Normal one.

Sorry, this is a normal coin. The space between the the A and the M is simply abraded. The "proof reverse" would show the letters fully spaced apart, along with the FG closest to the memorial.
By the way, it was a 1996 Philadelphia Wide AM cent that was supposedly found by Billy Crawford years back, not Denver. It was allegedly "stolen" before anyone else could verify it, so most experts have discounted the notion it actually exists.

Oh WOW! Thank you for the update on my hopeful variety. No, really, thanks for all the info. buddy. So, you're saying the separation should look similar to the famous '99 Wide AM, right? and I know I need better pics on the off metal. So, most probably a no exist, huh?

In saying all that, it is still a mystery on the "little" separation, right?
Once again, look at the difference.

No mystery, unfortunately. It is just abraded. Ive seen many, many examples like that while searching for the big 1999 Wide Am. The spacing should be exactly like the famous 1999 WIDE AM. This is because it is the same design used in the die. The wrong design, the one intended for the proof coinage of that year.
Keep searching. While Ive never found the Wide Am from 1999, I have located about 10 each from 1998 and 2000.

Ok, my friend, thanks! Yeah, I once found the Big one (1999) on the ground, about ten years ago. I sent it in across the street and It came back, 64RB. I was ecstatic! I also, found three 2000's but no, to the '98. I think these Wide AM's are under rated, don't you?

Wow, nice pull for a ground find!
I dont know about underrated, as when you go to sell it seems nobody wants them. There are so many rare Lincoln Cent varieties that could be called underrated. Sometimes it seems the only thing harder to find than a lincoln cent variety... are those that collect them!

Come to thinking, the Wide am's are sort of like the "B Reverse" Quarters. A mishap from the Mint regarding from Proofs.

What do you mean by 'off metal'?? A cent of different composition? Could be a zincoln with the copper plating gone.... Cheers, RickO

That's probably what this is. I see a silver color (zinc maybe?) in areas where the copper used to be. Any Premium for this RickO?

From the close up photos, the coin looks
like the surfaces have been altered somewhat.

It's not an off metal or wrong planchet.
The copper has been removed in those areas
where you see the zinc core showing......
