That's a pretty fat thumb if that's a fingerprint!
It's up on Ebay as an MS66:

I don't know, but the description is.... disingenuous at best I believe.
"Nicely struck and well preserved with superb surfaces and nice autumnal hues through out."
It's either a thumb print or, perhaps more likely, a palm print. Regardless, it is the remnant of a print and the oils in the hand caused the pattern.
Paul Bunyon did it.
Not really, it does not go across the whole coin. I think the fidelity of the print (not the size) is what really gotmy attention.
I agree with TomB

What's disingenuous about it? When you have a coin that grades 66, IT HAS TO BE near fully struck , have great surfaces and AND excellent eye appeal.
Looks like a gorilla print to me JMO

I'm just here to learn and have fun. Not into an internet argument tonight.
If I called it wrong my apologies to the seller and PCGS and Ebay and the lot of them,
But it sure appears to be a palm print.
You have no idea if it's a palm print or not. You just attacked both our host PCGS and a very reputable dealer with slander.
Prints can appear after ones slabbed and the grader never see it. I don't think anyone is knocking PCGS.
That's Tom Runyons finger print, he normally does show grading and of course we all call him Tom Bunyon.
The better question is "what didn't happen to that quarter?"
Definitely a print.... from a hand or finger.... likely a palm print... too bad... Cheers, RickO
Looks like PVC might be present?
My YouTube Channel
It almost looks like scotch tape or lamination residue.
BST references several
I think it's several slightly overlapping prints.
Could it have been wrapped in fabric ?
I may be in the minority here, but I don't mind the coin at all. Not at that price though...
Then you do mind this coin ? Kidding
Maybe an ulnar arch print of the thumb
How about an unlar arch print of the thumb instead
