Recent roll finds

Picked up a roll of nickels for face and it contained the following;
1868 Shield - pitted, probably a ground find
1908 Liberty - G4/AG3
1 no date Buffalo
1916-S Buffalo -1/2 to 2/3 horn
1935
1936
1936 - full horn
1937 - 1/2 to 2/3 horn
1937-D - full horn
1938-D - full horn
1938-D - nice AU
1938 Jefferson - XF45 still had some mint luster
1940 - AU 4 steps
1945-S silver
1947-S
1960 Netherlands 5 cent piece in nice AU
The rest of the roll was 1964 and newer.
I work at a bank and get a lot of hand rolled coin which I try to check out if I get the time
by looking at what is on each end.
This roll had the 1945-S silver on one end and a buffalo on the other.
This is my best score yet. Not exactly a huge value but I should be able to make a few bucks.
Second best score was a roll of dimes that had a silver Roosevelt on one end and a mercury on the other.
That roll ended up having 7 Mercs and 10 silver Roosevelts.
Sorry no pics.

Awesome! My bank gets some cool stuff as well.
Wow, that's a great find.
I've been searching rolls for more than 40 years and have never found a shield nor a V nickel,
Now I understand why I never find anything in rolls from the bank...
You guys are getting them all first....Cheers, RickO
I just searched a bag of $200 in nickels from the coin machine and I found one silver nickel and one Buffalo nickel. Probably won't be doing that again, LOL.
I searched several dozen bank rolls of nickels and about one-sixth of them were Buffaloes, including a 1925-S.
Of course, this was in 1962 . . .

I love roll searching nickels! The metal is so hard that it lasts for a long time.
@erwindoc.... I agree...nickels definitely age better... except for war years... you can clearly see the difference in wear signs.... We like silver, but much like people... it visibly ages... and faster than we would like. Cheers, RickO
And there is something about finding a 1938 nickel in change. They just have a total different look to them

I don't think I'd get anything productive done for the bank.
Collector, occasional seller
Actually, that is pretty darn good....even finding ONE Buffalo is extremely rare now.
Yes I agree. I hadn't found one in many years but found a nice XF/AU recently.
I can remember when about 1 out of every 10-20 nickels in circulation was a 1939, 40 or 41 Philadelphia.
Those days are long gone.
I had another customer a couple months ago just turn in a bunch of loose change.
)
In it were 9 Buffalo nickels. All but two were dateless.
It is nice working as a Teller at a bank, as you still do see some nice stuff come in once in a while,
but nothing like it probably use to be. (Been a Teller for just 2 years) I also have snagged some nice old currency that people
have turned in. Crisp AU bills from the 1950 and 1963 series and some Silver Certificates. Must have had them stashed somewhere. (But that's another forum
