I just spent some time at Stack's viewing some of the Pogue Collection coins in the next auction.

Three things stuck out like a sore thumb.

First and foremost, there are some absolutely beautiful and phenomenal coins that will be sold. I looked at some and had to stop, it's just too close to bed-time!! The ones that really stood out are the Large Cents. The Goldgerg Auction several years ago had some fantastic coins, I think it was the Dan Holmes Sale, but these coppers made me shiver.
Second, looking is as far as I can go.
Third, I don't believe a single coin in the entire auction is non-PCGS. I noticed that almost sub-consciously at first and then made it a point to actually look. Given the way the year began with the "rant" it really stood out.

I suggest that everyone should at least glance through the listings, especially the Large Cents.

The Pogues made a good decision getting their collection graded by PCGS. Not sure about the CAC decision however - there's two trains of thought on that (when a smaller percentage stickers). Dunno which train is the better.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......

  • There is a cool clip on YouTube from Forbes on this collection. All the coins look to be in custom PCGS holders attributed to Pogue. Just search Forbes Pogue on YouTube and it should come up.

As I recall, they changed the labels after that video was shot, as some people didn't like the gold colored labels.

Mark, I don't drink but look forward to an eventual sit-down which could cover any range of topics. you strike me as a very interesting chap!! :) one thing about the "collection" going to PCGS after watching that video --- can you imagine the Electricity going through the Grading Room when it was announced that they'd be grading those coins??

No doubt. The graders must have been provided bibs and hazmat suits

I've intended 2 of the auctions live and fireworks broke out twice for different reasons.

Ah. Do you think the 1804 dexter dollar will be there? Just seeing and holding that in real life would be a dream come true.
