So the other night while trying to find something to watch based on a bleak description we took a chance on a Hulu new release titled "The Final Member". Which is based on a collector spending 35 years forming his collection and the finally being encouraged by his wife to open a museum as seen in this link phallus.is/en/. Anyhow we only managed to watch this for a few minutes until the fellow mentioned to fill the void between finding specimens for his collection he also carves some out of wood. Then while searching for something else to watch she leans over to mention how happy in comparison my nerdy hobby makes her!

Funny. How many times do we see the horder collectors on American Pickers have the end goal of creating a museum that never comes to fruition. I wonder how this story ended lol

In Barbara Gregory's article in a recent issue of The Numismatist, she was talking about a guy who collects vintage washing machines. At least coins take up less space!

I have quite a few friends that collect items way larger then coins.
Their collections take two routes as they either end up renting storage space or their homes quickly start to resemble pawn shops.
I'm renting storage space just for my numismatic literature collection.

My 20 year old daughter is making a profit selling clothes and shoes on ebay, but they are somewhat bulky.
After hours off brainstorming with me and a jeweler friend, she will be coming out with a very cool jewelry line where her inventory will take up very little space (like coins) but will have much higher margins
EOC, Hope your daughter does well with the Jewelry as your house must smell lovely full of worn shoes
A friend of mine collects old calculators. His Mom collects old hand operated egg beaters.
My son-in-law collects old anything... house looks like an antique shop... Told him to buy another house and open his present house as a store....

LOL, well I spent all day using my 8% ebucks coupon to buy jewelry findings for my daughters / and my jewelry business.
I kinda feel like a big corporation ordering big wholesale lots of findings from many different sources in China. The most I have ever bought from China. Everything will takes weeks to months to get here. Once here, the art and assembly will be done in America giving us a very high quality product that can be sold for huge margins.
My literature collection, while still relatively small, is growing quickly. Last July, it took up about 1 bookshelf. I am now at 3 1/2!

Broadstruck, you are a lucky guy. When I mention some cool numismatic discovery I get an eyeroll and a groan!
@kaz..... I have the same situation... although, occasionally I mention the value of a significant coin I have... and THEN I get some attention....
