1975 lincoln memorial bicentennial

I have no idea what this is all I know is I have a bunch more in mint condition or like proof condition. Struck on silver? Struck on foreign currency? Struck on a nickle planchet?

These were commonly sold as novelties in the 1970s. Yours is likely nickel or chrome plated. Also found with a high frequency are cents with an outline of an individual state stamped into the field and states with a profile of JFK looking at Lincoln in the obverse field. They are essentially worth face value.

I often saw these brought to me for evaluation by non-collectors, thinking they had found something special...They were disappointed... Cheers, RickO

  • Yea I'm probably only 8 months into coin collecting so that kind of stuff I'm still learning.

I'll snap up a counter stamped coin if it's sold as damaged or cheap enough. There is a sub-cult market for them.

I'd say Ebay is the best market for them.

One like yours sold on Ebay recently for $1.00 plus $1.00 shipping.

There is another like yours but a 1976 with a couple of other cents and they are asking $14.95 and $2.83 shipping.

Some counter stamps on older coins can be worth a pretty good bit, depending on the coin, who stamped it and why they did it.

I totally agree! My Dad was a great collector of many things- not coins-but lots of things, and he had that as his mantra. Also... welcome to the forum!

I have a similar novelty coin. It has JFK on it.
