Took a chance on the seller's images and bought this coin. Now I'm deciding whether to keep it or not. Any opinions? I should add I paid $47. for the coin.

I am not a fan of the look but at 47 bucks, you can't go wrong. You can tap the holder on the edges and straighten the coin out in there!
Or just use a electric toothbrush. Turn it on and hold it to the side of the holder until coin is in the correct position.
Send it back if postage is cheap enough. If it costs $10 then keep it. There's a good reason it's only $47 and has remained in that holder for so long. Dark, mottled, muted luster, and a FAT fingerprint. The rattler seems to be the only positive. If it were in a new PCGS/NGC MS63 holder would you like it as much?
100% Agree with Roadrunner's post above. If the holder is the best thing about the coin then you don't want it. Laying aside the fact that IMO it has zero eye appeal, that fingerprint killed it for me as soon as I saw the images.
Edit to add, does anyone think this coin raw gets into a new holder at 3?
MS70 is perfect. If one can get around the black spots its a nice coin. Wonder if they can be dipped off - use q tip on spots...then you could resubmit and get in a new gen holder and c what they grade it then - I am not a fan of the rotating rattlers. Tap it on the sides and get it to rotate into the right position.
You got it below wholesale bid too; its very easily an $80 coin.
Previous bidders didn't agree when it was at GC twice in 2016 (see 4th and 7th coins down). It realized under $40 both times to a voracious national audience. Last time out was lower at $38.27.
And now the 3rd attempt to sell it in 6 months gets $47 (with likely $5 of that shipping). Doesn't seem to me it's an $80 coin. GC buyers are pretty sharp and usually don't let a "nice" rattler slip by them. A different and nicer rattler MS63 without blotches and thumb print brought $55 in Jan 2016. Advice to OP to "Q-tip" the coin seems pretty misguided....adding another $30 grading fee in the hopes you didn't make it worse and end up with a lower grade or even a no grade.
Not trying to pile on but man that example is not looking good....but it's an inexpensive buy, and lord knows I've done a lot of those, so if you're happy that's what counts!
PS-I've actually bought a few Colombians over the years, didn't like them in-hand, and given the low prices decided just to crack out and carry around as pocket pieces. Good for show-and-tell, too.

Nice old holder.
What exactly are you mulling over that you are undecided whether or not to keep it?
Are those images posted yours or sellers?
I would totally keep that. It's very cool in that old holder!

I like the holder, but not the coin. Looks tan colored and lifeless.
My image. I'm wondering if I paid too much, and if I like the dark toning. I bought it on a whim. I'm also unsure about the fingerprint.

Not much eye appeal going on there.

My interpretation of the images is that I don't like it and that the $47 would be better as cash than in that coin.
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
I would keep it in the older holder...

RIP Mom- 1932-2012
It's not as bad as all that! Coin would make a 64 easily.
Ya got it cheap and one day waaaaaay down the road the holder will be worth something. I find the coin pretty much ugly all the way.

For $47 I would just keep it for resale one day.

The Shakespearean play, "Much Ado About Nothing" comes to mind.
To think I used to get these in change as a paperboy back in the early '50's.... Cheers, RickO
Every problem or unattractive coin I have gotten "cheap" has sold just as cheaply.
Commems and Early Type
nice coin and i do like to see the old holders to .
Not a fan.
Can you run the finger print through NCIC?
Seriously if you're not happy with it. I'd send it back.
But a PCGS rattler with a finger print on the coin, kinda rareish.
I have quite a few rattlers that have toned over the years and you can see the curved toning of a finger print showing.

Already sold to another CU member..
@ajaan.... Well done.... nice turnover.
@DancingFire ....That really is a nice San Diego... would have made an offer on that one. Cheers, RickO

Congrats. Can't complain about turning a small profit on an unattractive coin.

I hardly ever see a Columbian half that looks good to me. They just don't do pretty very often. Now the quarters can be interesting.
