For Immediate Release
REWARD OFFERED FOR RECOVERY OF STOLEN COINS
On Friday January 6, 2017, during the FUN Show, the hotel room of a collector was burglarized, resulting in the loss of 19 coins, mostly US Bust Half-Dollars. An itemized list appears below. The total value exceeds $40,000.
Fort Lauderdale police and Doug Davis of the Numismatic Crime Information Center are investigating the crime. Should you have any information regarding the crime or the stolen items, please contact Davis, of the NCIC, at (817) 723-7231 or Doug@numismaticcrimes.org.
The victim is a member of the Bust Half Nut Club, “BHNC.” Through the efforts of BHNC secretary Steve Herrman and PNG dealers Sheridan Downey and David Kahn, a reward fund has been assembled, currently totaling more than $16,000. The reward, administered by BHNC, is offered to any person that provides information leading to recovery of the stolen coins. Questions regarding the reward may be directed to Steve Herrman at herrman102@aol.com.
Collectors and dealers are urged to print a copy of the list of stolen coins and to keep an eye out for the items while examining Internet coin auctions, attending coin shows or visiting coin shops.

It should be Judd-355. Nice catch...I'll pass it along.

Coin # 17 seems to be the wrong PCGS #.
It shows the coin is a modern piece.

One can only hope you are referring to the coins and not the thieves. :-)

I would keep the pressure up by all means necessary, and the reward offer was a good idea too.
Great work. The reward is now probably 5x what the thief could fence them for. If I were the thief, I would just "find" them abandoned somewhere and collect the reward.
Great ...the list and the reward may help.... Certainly hope the coins are recovered. The images show some very nice coins.... Cheers, RickO
A couple more images.
Lance.
I agree the high reward should help.
A thief knows to not dare try to collect the reward, any good detective would be on to them in less then 5 minutes.
Successful card BST transactions with cbcnow, brogurt, gstarling, Bravesfan 007, and rajah 424.
if someone could proof it and click on the links to proof them, too, it would be helpful.
i hope they get them back. there sure are some nice looking coin in that lot.
The cert look-up links for coin# 2 and coin# 19 don't work/exist.
Thanks for doing this, MsMorrisine!

Shame how people can be more careful handling a $ 20 bill , than with a pricey collection of coins
Reminds me coming from an ANA show with a friend. He suggested we stop at a McDonalds, on the way home from the Show ....me carrying $25,000 coins on my person.. LOL
So sad to hear
I am not in the coin business. Since 1976 I have done trade shows connected with another hobby. I just finished up at a major west coast show this past weekend. I've seen it all. My advise to dealers, vendors, and show attendees is simple; NEVER leave anything of value unattended in a hotel room. Usually, my opinion, it's an inside job. For what it's worth.
Word travels fast among the shady crew....."Coin show... lots of money"..... Connections within the hotel/motel crew.... Valuables left unattended - gone. Cheers, RickO
Sucks to be victimized.

I would bet it was the hotel staff or their buddies.

Hi Steve. Welcome to the forum!
You mean coin# 15, of course.
Lance.
Thanks, Lance, and thank you to everyone who is assisting us to recover these coins.
The reward fund currently totals $16,850.

Lets try to keep this thread near the top. Hopefully someone will see these coins.
I was one of the underbidders on the Hilt 1795 O-103a. I'll notice if it turns up, and keep an eye out for the others.

Think i'll make up a little picture book of my coins to take with me to the next show...single 8-1/2 x 11 sheet of high-quality pictures of the stolen coins on it available for printing might be more like it...this sheet is in with my coin pictures since I don't bring actual coins with me to the show anymore....
