I hope this coin ends up in a museum or at the Smithsonian. IMO, it would be shame for such a wonderful piece of American History to spend decades locked up in some sterile high security storage facility, never to see the light of day until some heirs decide to sell it so it can move to another room in the facility.

Even so, wow, amazing how Liberty has evolved as depicted on coins.

I totally agree - I could name several museums that I am aware of who bury their numismatic holdings in basements, closets, etc. where they are not accessible to anyone.

Sorry that the mention of the Smithsonian rubbed so many people the wrong way. What if I said "on display at the US Mint in Philadelphia or similar venue" ? Would that sooth your feelings? My intention was the hope that the public might be able to see and appreciate this beautiful piece of American history, not to start a praise/bash the Smithsonian thread.
When I went to the Smithsonian, the coins were on a wall behind glass.
But the wall was a few feet from the glass so it wasn't easy to see anything.
1995 or so.
They did have a gold Honduras 20 Peso though.
What a coin!
The real question is, why is it being sold?? Has the thrill of cornering the pattern market run it's course?
